I was just wondering how the pay worked as you are deployed? Is it all made out to be like I hear? You have no taxes taken out and there are special pay you can receive. Just wanted some input on this.
Thanks

It depends on if you're deployed to the war zone or not, when in Iraq, I personally got FSH of $250.00 (family separation housing allowence) HFP/IDP 225.00 (Hostile Fire Pay/Imminent Danger Pay) SAVE PAY 100.00 (which is Hardship Duty Pay, something they give you for living in substandard housing to stop complaining) and didn't have to pay taxes. It's a good way to pay off bills. Plus the basic allowence for housing and food, if you're not buying anything out there, you can come home with quite a nest egg.
Dustmans;
Is that pay based upon rank and time in grade?

These are the pays that everyone gets, well not the FSA, you have to be married for that one, other special pays that are sometimes added, flight pay for flying CASEVAC, BAH if you're living out in town, BAS if you're married. Some states still make you pay state tax and social security is deducted.

Some companies (such as USAA) will voluntarily reduce or suspend finance charges when provided with official notification of your deployment.
Furthermore, with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, most Reservists should be able to reduce the interest rate on most of their debts to just 6% during mobilization.
Anything over 179 days service in OIF, OEF, or HOA gets you two Award Points for the Advancement Exam FMS that could help get that next promotion (& raise).

SelRes that get mobilized and take a cut in pay may request to adjust alimony, palimony, and/or child support based off their mil paycheck instead of their civilian salary. Parents may also be able to obtain credit/adjust payments for child support by properly enrolling their dependant children in DEERS to obtain full healthcare benefits.
However, it could cost you more if your military pay is higher than your civilian pay. The ratio of time spent with the other parent will also increase (often to 100%) and that may increase the non-custodial parent's liability to pay a higher porportion of chid support.

Does being a Corpsman assigned to FMF to an infantry unit(or any unit in that matter) qualify you for SDAP? or is that for Recon type Boys?

I believe I answered that question for you earlier when you commented on not getting a bonus.
Read NAVADMIN 101/08 or visit this link:

If you have additional SDAP questions please ask your questions in that thread so all the SDAP info is all in one place.

I got it know, thanks HMC
there is also an incentive pay that they just recently started for HM's...My Chief was talking about it, he was happy to hear about it but dissapointed because if you work at FMF HQ you would get more then you would out in the line. It comes out to be between 250-500/month....I think it goes by UIC..what it is called escapes me and I will do research unless someone else beats me to it...can't wait to get off shore duty:(
MexDoc,
I think you're talking about Assigment Incentive Pay (AIP) which gives you a little more in your pocket if you agree to take a hard-fill billet or meet other criteria - http://www.npc.navy.mil/CareerInfo/PayAndBenefits/AIP.htm
Is that what you are referring to?
Probably, I just briefly heard about it and heard they were trying to make it FMF wide..atleast for deployed HM's.

I'm thinking you may have misheard the conversation or there is some bad gouge. It sounds like you are talking about SDAP but the details you provided above are wrong for SDAP.
Please do some research, or ask your Chief, and come back with an update for us. If we rate more pay then I want to make sure my Doc's in the box are getting it. If there is just scuttlebutt confusion, I'd like to fix that too.
The amount of SDAP paid to HM's is determined by NEC (ie. 8404, 8427) but eligibility is determined by UIC (units in country). I do not know anything about a system paying HQ HM's more than Line HM's.
heh The Chief IS always right. It is SDAP. He squared me away with this link. http://www.npc.navy.mil/NR/rdonlyres/E6CA955B-3359-4F20-9ABA-7C6F3B067DBB/0/NAV08101.txt
cool, glad you got it figured out, I was thinking AIP based on UIC (as in Unit Identification Code rather than Units In Country).

eligibility is determined by UIC (units in country).
I just noticed a confusingly worded note (about 30-seconds before I ready Indy's comment pointing it out)....
UIC does not mean "units in country". What I meant was that UIC's used for SDAP eligibility are all for units that are in country, but technically even that is not entirely accurate because you don't necessarily need to be "in country" to get SDAP (ie. SDAP for OIF might still be paid in Kuwait, not just Iraq).
The true meaning for UIC is Unit Identification Code as pointed out by Indy.
Thanks for the clarification HMC-FMF-PJ. I wasn't sure about the units in country issue as I hadn't heard that term used before, but was thinking that the Navy sure does have enough acronyms that it was possible for re-use to occur.
