0000 with 1st MAW

I'm currently JASSing for new orders when i PCS next March and there are 4 slots with 1st MAW for a 0000. It also had a WAS (women at sea) star by it. But i was just wondering how does that come about? How can a 0000 corpsman be assigned to a Marine unit without being 8404/SAR/AVT? What would the job entail and would I be with corpsman with the specialty training? I put it down regardless becuase I just thought it would be interesting, and from what I've heard at my command (NMCSD), the probability of actually getting orders that you JASS for are slim. Thanks to anyone who replies!

Sorry I didn't answer this before..

MAW does not necessarily mean it is choppers, could be F/A-18's Ospreys or choppers now..

Not everyone gets to do MEDAVACS.. quite a few 0000's have done them though.. My wife was a 8406/8404 and got a Helo MAG way back in the day..

She flew and was not SAR.

Right now there are a whole lot of changes happening.. I will say though you will have to go to FMSS to get the billet at a minimum..

There are not any 8401 billets on the green side. Its very slim to find a green side true 0000 billet, am really surprised actually, seeing that 8404 is their schooling. There are many billets open for 8404/000 in the MAW, including rotor wing squadrons. Normally there is 1 8406/8404 and one 8404/000 per squadron.
