Hello all. I'm an AD Airman and I'm interested in enlisting in the reserves as a Corpsman when I separate next year. When I first joined the military, I was hoping to work in a medical career field, and had the Navy recruiter been more interested in explaining my career options to me and less interested in ogling women, I'd probably be a Corpsman instead of an Airman right now. But I digress. I'm an E-5, 34 years old with five dependents. I'm looking to enlist in South Carolina. My goal is to enlist in the reserves, finish school, and apply for the Nursing Corps. Is that a realistic goal given the Navy's needs right now? As a prior service enlistee, what will training be like? It's been explained to me that I should be looking for a job on the "blue side". How often should I expect to deploy as a "blue side" reservist? Any and all details and information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

you have a few options. if you finish school and get your RN you can come in as an officer, or just enlist in the Navy as a Corpsman and use the programs already set in place for Corpsman pursuing nursing and even MD/DO programs. Blue side is all Navy, and Green side is Navy medical department attached to a Marine Corps Command. As far as deployment that depends on the needs of the Navy as well as im sure it works in the AF for their needs. but as a reservist they can only call you up for a max of 24 months, and then if you deploy u cant get called up for 3-5 years if i remember correctly. But you can volunteer at anytime you would like. Im sure there is more info to pass, and hopefully someone else will chime in and give better details.
