:err:Hi everybody! I am a practicing civilian registered respiratory therapist from Indiana. While in school for this career, it became obvious that i was gonna be bored so I went to my dean to request special permission to take extra classes. I took up to 24 cr. hrs a semster and still maintained a 4.0 gpa. That is when I started talking to the powers that be about med school. To sum it up, I have 15 credit hours to go before I will be ready for medical school. But I am a nontraditional student, so I need to do this by alternative means. As the wife of a USMC veteran, I immediately thought of the military. And what better way to spend your life than caring for our nation's finest, right? But the thing is that i am 100% civilian. I don't know a thing about the military, other than my husband receiving his GI Bill in his account on the 13th of every month when we were in college. I don't know if I would go in as enlisted or officer. I don't know what posts females are even permitted to take. My focal point of my career has been critical care, and so I obviously want to end up somewhere where my skills will be useful. i am out of shape, so my husband is working with me on the PT aspect I have thought this through, and the reasons one would have to NOT join don't bother me. For example, deployment away from my family, while not fun, would be endurable for me. i would be away from them anyway in med school. Getting placed in harms way doesn't bother me. Just last week (and I know this doesn't compare, but just to give you an idea) someone pulled a gun in the ER at the hospital I work. if someone's gonna do that, I would rather it be for a worthy cause. Neither of my parents ar living, so it is not like I am leaving this close-knit extended family. And my husband is awesome, and will support me 100% in whichever road i choose to take.
So anyhow, now that you know I am completely ignorant, I want to say thanks for your faithful service. And I would greatly, GREATLY appreciate even the smallest morsel of info anyone can give me. I cannot seem to reach a recruiter.
Thanks,
Andrea
