A Patriot Guard Rider enroute to a medal awards ceremony for a deceased soldier was killed yesterday. Witnesses say he was struck by a truck.

Apparently his wife was behind him and saw the accident. He was a member of the Alabama PGR and it is very likely that I know him from previous missions in the region.

As I learn to ride, the point that my new found hobby can be deadly is hammered home time and again.

I don't know what to say, how to say it or to even begin trying to imagine how horrible it must have been for his wife to watch her husband killed like that.

I'm not in the mood for anything now, just sitting here speechless. I wish every one with a car license would go through the Motorcycle Saftey Course and realize what a danger some of the habits are. Cell phones, playing with the radio, eating, changing cd's etc put evryone at risk. Add alcohol and fatigue and other drug use and the fact is, no one is safe from these idiots!!

How many people have to die before people wake up?

I was sad at first, now I'm just po'd!!!

i have several friends who are riders who have gotten knocked off their bikes because vehicle drivers don't look before they change lanes

People are trying to do too many things while driving and not paying enough attention to the most important task at hand - DRIVING
I saw a guy one afternoon who was talking on a cell phone, holding a BIG GULP and DRIVING A STICK SHIFT - what he was steering with??? (NEVERMIND- I DON'T WANT TO KNOW) :swn:

NOTE: If you have a hard time walking and chewing gum - don't try to do anything more than drive when you are behind the wheel

The sad thing is, it is not against the law!!! There are laws against driving recklessly, but apparently what you do in the cockpit is ok as long as no one gets hurt?

In many states cellphone use is now outlawed! Eating, while not dangerous initsef is deadly ijn a car. You drop something, what do you do? You look down, now in traffic that isn't where i on a bike want your eyes!

I got rear ended on a bright sunny day. I was in a white van, brake lights worked, signal for a left turn was on. The guy was looking for his cigarettes, and slammed into the van doing 50 mph! When I heard that, I became unglued. That was last summer, I now do not drive on that road(it has a reputation for similar accidents) .
