View Full Version : about to enlist
Hi, i am 21 years old and would like to enlist as a corpsman. I want to go to fmss and get stationed with the marine corps. I would prefer to not be stationed in a hospital or clinic. Is there anyway I can be guaranteed service in the field with marines?
I would also like to know if my height could restrict me from becoming a corpsman. I am 6'5'' and my uncle *a marine* has told me several times that the marines like there men short. Thank you for all of your help!

That's funny. Too tall for FMSS and assignment to FMF units? Hard too imagine. Just as they don't care about short folks, you won't have any problem. Don't think "Uncle Marine" is being straight with ya. There is no official or un official policy on this that I was ever aware of.

Hi,
I am considering enlisting as a corpsman. I have a BA from a college here in Boston and I am looking to be attached to the Marine Corps. I took the ASVB and did well (96) and I am wondering what the training is like to be with the Marines. I am 23 years old.

A rather vague question don't you think? What is it like? For some FMTB is "challenging" but rather easy. For others it is the most difficult thing they have ever done in their lives.
As far as learning what sort of training you go through to be with the Marines, read the threads about FMTB, FMSS, 8404, and FMF. You can browse around or use the search feature.

Feel free to start a new thread or add a reply in the FMTB section if you have a more specific question about the training required to serve with the Marines that you can't find an answer too.

But they'll take nice big ones to help hump their machine gun and other "light" equipment.

Thanks for the help, I have been looking over the website. I recognize the question was vague, but I am just starting the process and am just looking for any insight. This site has a lot of resources, I appreciate the push in the right direction.
