Hey all!
You won't believe this, but a date opened up and I ship out September 11th, 2006 (Monday)! Only down side is that it is NCS, however with the financial situation I am currently in I really could not pass the opportunity up. Plus, the way I am hopeful and look at it... I plan on busting my ass and giving it all so when the time comes I can get a new active contract instead of reserves or leaving period.
Ill be back on later this evening to post some more details as I need to go to dinner with my family right now :)

Dude,
Congrats.. I think.. Understand this, you "WILL NOT" be able to stay on Active Duty after your 15 months are done, you also are "NOT" eligible for the GI BILL. Don't let them tell you any different.
If your ok with this and understand this is a "RESERVE" program, then good on ya..
But don't show up at my desk whining that you want to go active when you have been informed about the program prior. You have been so edumacated.
;-)

Hmmmm.. the Chief downtown say I would be eligible for GI Bill and that it is a possibility to go active. Don't worry, I trust you so I will bring it up and get this shit in my contract, if not, they can kiss my ass and I am not leaving.
EDIT: Ugh this is irritating... and boy is shit going to hit the fan downtown (if I even make it that far). In your expert opinion.. is it possible to have the NCS switched to 5-year? Here is what I am afraid of having happen... I go downtown on friday and they tell me all this crap and then I say I was told otherwise, they say sorry and that I agreed to NCS. Yadda yadda, I don't sign and they wont change to 5-year. Am I screwed? I won't be able to get my original ship out date and may not be able to ship as an HM then. Please pardon then sense of urgency and panic I am experiencing.
Is there anything, NAVADMIN or whatever, that could help my case? Yes, yes, I am pretty desperate and I want to be prepared for when I go in. My apologies in advance for being paranoid and a little crazy right now.

Per the Force Master Chief who was just here last week,
NCS Sailors are to go to the Reserves not to be kept on Active Duty when thier 15 month obligation is done. No one is being kept on Active Duty.
Look you haven not left yet, get it switched back to 5 years, do the time until you ship, your then eligible for the full GI bill etc..
As NCS your not, They are lying to you straight to your face if they tell you otherwise. I speak to thier bosses regularly in Recruiting Command. Bad Gouge is being put out.
Sorry to burst your bubble but at least your informed. Look don't be pressured, your in the drivers seat not them.

Everyone reading this thread,
HM_ChrisG has decided to go through the NCS program. He is well aware of the NCS Shortcomings, NCS is a way to pipline HM's into the Reserve program. They get no GI BILL, or cannot stay on active duty, he is aware of this and still chose to do it.
I wish him luck and fair winds and following seas!
See you in a few months!
