Ill be a 8404 FMF. I live in Arizona so i guess its going to be freezing over at great lakes. I have a few questions but ill ask them else where so this thread doesnt get cramped up ^.^ oh and ill be going in as a e-3 since i did 4 years of NJROTC

cool thanks for the welcome. i wonder if my c school for fmf is the same thing as fmss?
dnguyenaz;
I understand you are going in as a reservist. On NCS reserve contracts, they state that FMSS, which is now called FMTB, is a 'C' school. It is NOT.

Hi. I posted my intro somewhere else, but I will do it here also. this is John, Andi's guy. You already know I am a Marine(once a Marine Always a Marine, OORAH!) I have been thinking about reenlisting in the military for awhile, and Andi told me to sign up here, that you guys would help me out. You know my wife, so you will understand my insanity. We have a 5 year old, Evan. Yeah, that's my BOY! I have been in school to become a nurse, but we had some setbacks, one of them being we needed to relocate for my wife's job here in Indiana. I hate the Buckeyes, and am Michigan Blue thru and thru (was born in Detroit). I want to do something medical, and we were talking about Corpsman. I'm ready. I figure by the time my years are up, Andi will be out of med school and I can chill and spend my days fishing with my Boy! I have no problem being a "kept man". lol. We can't be active at the same time because she will never let me live it down if I have to salute her. That's about all there is to me. I'm just a good ol' boy.

Hello All! I realized that I hadn't actually posted an introduction, and since I've so appreciated all the information this site has provided, I thought I'd better get my act together. My husband is currently a student at NHCS, and is working hard toward his ultimate goal of becoming a Navy doctor (baby steps) and I couldn't be more proud of him. So, while he's hanging out at Great Lakes, our brand new son and I are in NC eagerly awaiting the day we can pack up and join my husband. Thank you again for this site - it has been a great source of information and support!

Since I get after everyone to tell us about themselves I am going to do a little bio on myself here to get the ball rolling again :)
My name is DeeDee, I am a USAF veteran (Da-Chief keeps callin' me a Zoomie but I don't mind).
My son Dan (kahuna5150) is a Navy Corpsman who is currently deployed with 1/10 Fox in Iraq. He is the reason that I found this site in the first place. I was looking for a corpsman logo and Da-Chief went above and beyond getting me exactly what I was looking for.
I started coming on the site to get answers to questions about being a corpsman and one thing lead to another and I am now on the site wandering around everyday: Answering questions, getting our deployed docs adopted for care packages, hosting chat on Tuesday nights, editing the Corpsman.com monthly newsletter Scuttlebutt, and causing general mischief around the site.
Looking forward to hearing from LOTS of docs around here who are deployed and want to be adopted for support. And from ANYONE who wants to send out packages, letters, etc to those deployed Docs :)
email me anytime deedee@corpsman.com
Newsletter stuff please email to editor@corpsman.com - I will put just about ANYTHING in the newsletter so send it to me :D

I came across this website last night and I'm so glad that I did. My name is HM2(SW) Wendy Gaydos (Retired). I served from March 1994 to June 2005. Those of you doing the math, yes that's only 11 years but I was medically retired. My husband is still active duty but he's not an HM. He's a Damage Controlman.
I was a Preventive Medicine Technician and I loved being an HM. I don't necessarily miss the BS of the military but I do miss taking care of my Sailors and Marines. My first duty station was Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1995. After that I went to NAS JRB Fort Worth, TX Branch Medical Clinic. I terminated shore duty after two years in Texas and reported to my first (and only unfortunately) ship the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) in 1998. I loved being a shipboard HM! I enjoyed serving with the Marines too but I was meant to go to sea. In 2001 I left the BHR to go to IDC school but when I tore up my knee in FMSS I lost those orders. So I went to the Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit 5 (NEPMU5) in San Diego and that would end up being my last duty station.
I met my husband on the BHR but we didn't start dating until 2002 when we were both on shore duty. We have a beautiful daughter who is 4. Right now I am a stay-at-home-mom but we are transferring to Naval Station Mayport and I plan on going back to work after we get settled. I enjoy playing the role of proud Navy wife. I also play the role of proud Army daughter (my father is a CW05 in the Army) and proud Air Force sister (my youngest brother is a pilot). One is currently deployed to the "sandbox" and the other is leaving soon too. But more than anything I am proud to say that I was, and always will be, A NAVY HOSPITAL CORPSMAN!
I look forward to getting to know everyone. I'm so glad that I found this site.

Greetings all of you.. so many have joined lately..
Thank you all for becoming a part of our team here..!!
If there is anything you ever need a "DOC" is always standing by ready to assist!
My name is HM2(FMF) Aaron Ramirez, I enlisted in the Navy Reserves in early 2004. It's been a whirlwind every since. I have done everything they said no to. I haven't taken no for an answer in a long time. I've learned very quickly that if you are serious and persistant you can convince the right people to say yes. I've been to Iraq and back and am now on Active Duty on I&I. I've stayed very busy with as many schools and training as they could send me to. I love what I do enough to know that this is my career. My Marines are some of the greatest people I've had the pleasure to serve with. Of course my family of Corpsman fit there too, there is a difference between the breed though. It has been a long road and I have been fortunate enough to have some great guidance along the way.
The leadership has been outstanding too. Even the bad ones have taught me something to pass on to the next set of HM's, how NOT to lead. My thanks goes to them as well because they have passed some valuable lessons about the "Blue Falcon", for those that don't know the term look it up on Urban Dictionary.com. I still have along way to go with my career and have a lot more to learn from those around me. Chief, good to see things are going good. Regards to all!

Welcome aboard Doc Ramirez! Good to see more reservist (even if you are I&I) :)
Just doing some searching on yahoo and found this site its like a dream come true. the information is endless even though i have a few questions i didnt find answers to but ill save those for another thread. Name is Nic and i enlisted about a month ago i ship out 20080505...i graduated from paramedic school about 2 months ago. i was chasing after a fire medic dream job when i feel in love with the medical field and with a history of family in the military i knew this was my calling. it was a toss up between the navy and the army and since i have had family in the navy/marines and have 3 cousins in the marines i guess my choice was made for me. so my choice to be a corpsman was made up about a year ago and i couldnt wait to finish medic school. but here i am now.....i cant wait to get started with this career...
meps was an experience but talkin with the classifier sucked.....this was the first week of january and i knew what i wanted active duty HM for my job....but he said they couldnt give it to me because they were full for the year that i didnt understand...thought they needed male corpsman at least thats what the ole recruiter told me....they really pushed NCS which i havnt heard many good things about..but once i said "well if you cant give me what i want im sure the army could use me" that changed his mind pretty quick and low and behold he found an opening....i dont know whats goin on with the enlistment bonus thing i mean i understand it but if they do decide to go retroactive am i entitled to anything because there is nothing in my contract? and if i am how do i know and go about getting it in my contract? none of my recruiters can seem to answer this..oh well didnt join for the money i got the job that i wanted and thats all that matters i believe i have found my calling....and if you couldnt tell i would love to be and 8404 or 8427...but where ever the navy needs me is where i shall go and have no problem doing such....because i will proudly serve my country in any way that it needs me
Anyways thats me thats a little intro and i am very very excited to join the navy family and most of all the corpsman family...thank you for such an awesome site and look forward to talking to yall real soon....NB
they really pushed NCS which i havnt heard many good things about..but once i said "well if you cant give me what i want im sure the army could use me" that changed his mind pretty quick and low and behold he found an opening....
I remember my recruiter told me I didn't score high enough on the ASVAB test to be a Yeoman or Personnelman but I scored high enough to be an HM. Later I learned you had to score higher to be an HM ... he was lying to fill billets (of course that turned out the best for me in the end). They lie. They lie to fill what they're told to fill first. Good for you to threaten to walk away. It was a different time when I was younger and there was no googling anything back then as computers were a SciFi thought. If you didn't know someone with prior and/or current info ... you didn't know jack.
i dont know whats goin on with the enlistment bonus thing i mean i understand it but if they do decide to go retroactive am i entitled to anything because there is nothing in my contract?
A contract in the military is the same as in the civilian world ... binding. If it's not in there ... you're not getting it. It may be too late, but you can always review it. You may not be in it for the money ... but you do deserve the same pay as everyone else. Don't let a sloppy recruiter or careless people currently assigned to your MEPS get away with not preparing the correct paperwork and contracts for you. Money is still important.
and if you couldnt tell i would love to be and 8404 or 8427...but where ever the navy needs me is where i shall go and have no problem doing such....because i will proudly serve my country in any way that it needs mep
I got the sense you'd want 8404 with those Marines in your family. Like Nike says ... DO IT. Besides, from what I read, all males aren't going to have a choice about being 8404 trained; its going to be mandatory. My years assigned to a Marine Corps unit were the absolute best!!! I love those years.
Anyways thats me thats a little intro and i am very very excited to join the navy family and most of all the corpsman family...thank you for such an awesome site and look forward to talking to yall real soon....NB

Name is Ryan Barrios. I am just a wide eyed dumb kid who signed a contract to become a Corpsman. I am from a military family and grew up on bases so I am excited that I finally get to "go home." What do you wanna know!? HM2 USN/USMC, RVN 67-68, Helicopter Surgical Evacuation Team Bravo, got up as high as e5, but kinda went up and down the rates, all the way back to e1 and up to e5 again. Had some real issues with athority! lol 14 & 1/2 years, and ousted because of beer and pot addiction. Fine now. Started out as an or tech, and ended up a surgical pa. Turned down a warrent office commission to stay "enlisted". Asked to train the youngons at the USNR station in Burlington, VT in the late 80's and early 90's, but would not shave my beard. That got their attention, along with slides and pics from the 60's. So, here I am trying to move on, but a little of me is stuck in the 60's with sex, drugs , and rock and roll! lol

The sky was black with night
Yet there was light, a mechanical light
That made the land like day.
A loud light that made fair weather stormy.
This rain was not moist
And did not make for growth and green.
It did not fall gently, soothing and cleansing the soil.
This was a new rain, sharp and painful.
The forest opened and the Earth fell in
Black and brown and red.
Yes the red pooling beside the life
It supported just seconds ago.
Next to me there was a sound,
A faint sound, a struggling sound,
"Take what life I have left, for it is no longer mine.
Live life for me and as we live life together
As one, you will be stronger."
Now I am two.
How and when will I be strengthened?

Hi, my name is Joe. I joined in July 1996 for DEP and shipped to Great Mistakes in November 1996. I completed NHCS in class 97095 in June 1997 and went to FMSS in Sept. 97. I went to Surgical Tech in October 1997 but didn't complete due to family problems. My ex was an HM at Camp Pendleton (97105) at the time so I went to FFG 33 (USS Jarrett) and then from there to USS Comstock (LSD 45). I worked as an EMT with OWLVFD in Occoquan (Prince William VA.) and currently with AMR in Riverside CA. I am divorced with two sons. I am living with my fiancee and two cats plus a twelve year old parrot. I have two books I have written called Rescue Two and I am currently updating and retyping the first book after consulting with an officer from CalFire.
Its nice to be able to chat with you all and read the different topics discussed.
Thanks,

Hello all,
I'm a long time listener, first time caller. My name's Aaron and I'm currently in class 060C under the night class schedule slated to take test 4 Friday. I'm a recovering member of the infamous Crackhouse, the beloved BEQ 129 (most of us miss it for some reason), and currently reside in 131.
I'm excited to be at Corps School and hope to go FMF even though we're being told we'll be on hold long after we're slated to graduate (April 18th). Then the chances of us getting sent to FMTB immediately following that are extremely slim :( But hey, I waited 2 months in NMT cleaning BEQ 132 over and over and over...and over lol.
A quick bit of advice to any new forum member who finds themselves under the night schedule. Despite what all the day class students say it isn't that bad. Think of it this way, in the morning when you have liberty there's no line at the NEX, bank or anywhere else for that matter. Plus you can sleep in. :P Oh, plus it's awesome getting breakfast at 2200 :)
Anyways,
Glad to be here folks. It's always cool to learn something new reading posts here.
NoName:
That is what I like to hear, someone who can see the positive side of things when everything else seems upside down.
You may have to wait for FMTB after NHCS. My son, worked at a clinic/BAS at a Marine base for almost a year before receiving his orders for FMTB.
Keep up the great attitude, it will serve you well throughout your life professionally and personally.

Whew, hopefully this time it works....computer issues...don't ask!
I'm a very proud mom of a new Navy Corpsman (grad 1/25). He's currently at Pendleton (yep, he went FMF. We think his brother the Marine may have influenced that just a tiny bit.) He's already got his unit assignment, so we know he'll be deploying to Iraq in the spring around the same time his brother will be returning. They've planned to wave at each other as they pass in CA.
It's awesome to have two additional Mom's on board with us. Were glad you are here. We are a close knit family and a medical enlisted military web community, for all military services.
Additionally, parents, spouses, family members and friends are all welcome here. We provide answers and support for all our members and enjoy a healthy exchange of information and life experiences.
Please feel free to join in on any thread or chat discussions, and invite others to join our family. Dee Dee, another Corpsman Mom, hosts live chat sessions for all of us every Tuesday evening at 2100 EST. Be sure to tune in.
Thank you for registering and visiting corpsman.com
I myself, a father of a Corpsman, stumbled across this web site in search of answers to many questions.
Welcome Aboard to our two new mom's.

So when did NHCS start doing night classes? and how does it work? Is it like shift work or something? Kinda interesting but i think those instructors kinda drew the short straw huh? How about PT......I know with HM1 Tabura we had PT every freakin day! and what about NMT is that still in effect? Kinda interested in how this works! I left NHCS in november of 07 at my first duty station now. Someone please inform me!
"Those you matter dont mind, and those who mind dont matter"- HM1 Tabura
Night classes started about a week after we came back from Mass Exodus. They moved all night class students to 131 and put us all in the North Wing so we can't disturb the day class students on the South Wing. Everything for day classes remains the same as before.
PM shift schedule breaks down to this:
0800-1200 - Liberty
1345 - Muster for class
1400-1745 - Class
1745-1800 - March to chow
1800-1915 Chow and come back
1915-2145 - Class
2145-2200 - March to chow
2200 - Midrats (usually breakfast fare which is a nice change from the same galley 'menu')
Taps at midnight
PT is done whenever the instructors feel like it during the class time.
As for NMT time that's gone as far as I know. And from what I've been told people have been getting classed up a lot quicker than before. No more waiting 2 months or more to get classed up because of the AM/PM shift system.
WOW! I wonder if this is to deter night time social and partying life in the local community so that studies are better?
Think about it ... your major liberty time is in the morning? What is there to do at that time that might get you into trouble?
PT is done whenever the instructors feel like it during the class time.
:elvis:We didn't do PT when I went through ... none. After boot that was it. Then again that was before the mandatory PRTs came around ... and Operation Golden Flows began.

The night class schedule sounds like it would be better any way. You get to sleep in, nobody in the gym in the morning, and time goes quicker with a more quiet study time. I went in as a Cardiac Technician EMT and Pro Rescuer Responder Instructor from VA so I spent more time tutoring than studying. The previous training before the Navy paid off greatly and continues to today. Learn as much as you can from those with field experience.
Hello all, just dropping in to introduce myself. I'm soon to be a corpsman, I graduate corps school Feb 08. Little bit about myself... i'm 17, joined the navy 20Jul07, Graduated Bootcamp 14Sep07, arrived a corps school 18Sep07 and clased up sometime late october if memory serves. I was one of the last few classes to go through corps school on the 'old curriculum' so i've been outdated before I even graduated... fancy that. Finished testing with a 90.75 average, and i've been a member of corps school colorguard since test 4. Did fairly well on my labs... and I start clinicals this upcoming monday. My next duty station is Yorktown, VA for optician C-school, so if anyone here is from the base i'd be interested in getting to know you so i'm not totally on my own when I get there... as i' the only one from my class going to that C school. Awkward story behind that. My sister is also a corpsman, she's an HA stationed in cherrypoint, NC. She's probably the reason I joined the navy. ( I was gonna be a nuke but they said no because 'i'm not motivated because I don't have a h/s diploma.... Uh.. yeah, joined the Navy @ 17 w/ 19 college credits? Seems motivated to me. ) I aspire to be a therapist at some point down the road, and corpsman seemed to be the closest thing I could get to being a psychologist. I had intentions of making psych tech but it seems all the seats were taken and I couldn't get in, so I settled for optician. Take what you can get eh? Have any questions or comments feel free to email me. Or any advice : )
And to answer questions about the night classes and PT scheduele ... yeah, we PT whenever our instructors feel like taking us out. My class only pt'd about 7 times maybe, and when we did PT it was usually with HM1 Tabura. Good times. Night classes are a good thing, students are getting classed up much more quickly now; however, NMT is still in effect. My friend just recently classed up and he's been here since... i'm wanting to say since I was on test 6 or so.
Thats really about it. Look forward to meeting some of you :)

Hello all- Lot's of new folks around. I'm a guy that pops in once in awhile, then "disappears" for a few weeks. My name is Dennis Lee. I retired in 2005 after a pretty wild ride as an Aviation and field Medical Technician with a huge talent in orthpaedics and prevetnive medicine.
I'm also, as far as I know the only HM in hte USN to ever be awarded Australian Dolphins (yep I told ya it was a wild ride!!!). I'm supposedly the moderator for the Patriot Guard rider forum section. Not sure what it means.
I am currently a full time student and will be applying in the spring for Physical therapy Assistance program at Jackson State Community College here in TN.
I'm one of the old timers- been around this for a while.
I always have a comment- today's no different. So welcome to the website and please let us know if you need anything. We either have the answer or know where to go get the answer. Our goal is to help you, not hinder you.
The history of this Corps is honorable. ordinary men who did extraordinary things in combat- the history of tomorrow is being written today by the men AND women now wearing that caduces that I was honored to wear for 20 yrs.
Make damn sure you always stand on the right side of the moral and ethical issues. One bad choice can tarnish the entire CORPS. I wish there was an ethics course for Corps school, I sure would love to come to GREAT LAKES and give the lecture.
Anyone wanna make that happen for me? Instructors/staff at NHCS???? Available during spring break- you guys can video tape it for future use. No charge to Govt. Just put me on special active duty orders for a week, fly my in, put me in a room at the lodge.
Oh no uniform though. Uniform of the day will be business casual.

Hello folks. I just joined the DEP program a few weeks ago, glad I found this forum, because I have loads of questions.
Jyrinnis (http://www.corpsman.com/forum/member.php?u=1356)
Welcome Aboard and congratulations on your DEP status. Make sure you study and complete the Personal Qualification Standards, (DEP PQS) booklet for Deppers so you can get promoted to E2 out of RTC. Your recruiter should provide you with one.
If you haven't visited the Navy's RTC bootcamp website yet, you'll find loads of information about RTC there:
http://www.nstc.navy.mil/rtcgl/
Stay with us throughout your adventure. As you have questions or need something clarified or validated, we have a large staff of veteran and active duty personnel here who are willing to assist you.
We also have Tuesday evening chat nights at 2100 hours EST, so plan on attending and meeting the others.

Well, there were the "Navy Rights and Responsibilities" classes that were a mandatory class required annually. I remember teaching them when I was a member of the Command Facilitators Team. We taught those, sexual harassment classes, advancement classes, etc. Ethics were a part of the NR&R curriculum. I would hope they are still holding those. Not only did we cover ethics in the NR&R, but many other really good topics.

Hello all, First thanks for this site. My name is Lee joined the US Army 31Dec63, progressed to Sgt E-5 then went to OCS and commissoned 2nd LT in 1966 and wound up 1st LT , Copmpany XO.
Now my Grandson has started "A" school at Great Lakes on the night program and likes it very well. He really wants to sometime get a C school for 8482 Pharmacy.
I was in the service several years, but I was never so proud of a group of young men and women as when I attended the Grad. 28 Dec 07 at Great Lakes.
And I SALUTE all the personal that turned them from high school kids to Men and women, and it showed everywhere you saw them out.
Well that enough for now, and keep up the good work at corpsman school, Good luck and God be with all our troops.
Lee, I can hear the pride in your voice reading your words about your grandson. It is quite surprising to see the changes in them after they finish boot camp - they certainly aren't the KIDS they were when they left.
DeeDee
Welcome Aboard Lt.
From what I have heard and experienced myself, "mustangers" have always made the best officers. Thank you for your service during a most difficult time period of the US.
Congratulations on your grand son and continue visiting with us.
Thank you for serving Lee, and as for your grandson getting the Pharmacy C-school, I doubt he'll get it right out of A-school, unless billets open up for another class, but my class and the class after me filled up the billets for a pharmacy tech class that doesn't even start until May...and we graduated 08Feb08 Its an easy enough C-school to get though, so i'm sure the next time seats open up he'll be able to get one. Best of luck to him.

Greetings:
Just registered with your website. I'm HM2 Herb Eschbach; Graduated from A school, Great Lakes, Ill., April 67; then to Portsmouth, Va Naval Hospital, then with 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division in Viet Nam, Oct 68-Aug 69.
I live approx 90 miles north of New York City, but in farm country. Thirty four year career in fish and wildlife research and biological studies, Environmental Law Enforcement, and Director of Environmental Education Center.
Leisure time activities include hiking, walking, alpine skiing.
Welcome Aboard Herb and most importantly welcome home.
Environmental Law Enforcement, sounds like an exciting career.
Were certainly glad you're here.
OH yeah I remember those now. Of course thye were a bit dry weren't they?
Depends on the instructor. Mine weren't. After Tailhook we had to do the mandatory Sexual Harrassment classes and we did them in our auditorium in 3 sessions. We had a huge amount of staff there and I used the CO (who unfortunately for him sat right down front), to demonstrate what an "ambigious" situation looked like. LOL ... I got all cozy with him about his after shave ... but by making it funny and demonstrating a situation ... I got my point across.
Depends on the instructor ... and I loved teaching them and never sat still or was predictable.

Hello all. Thanks for having me. I am a Navy veteran, discharged in 1980. Did my basic at "the lakes" in 1976. I spent my A School in San Diego, CA. I was sent to Navcommsta Nea Makri greece for temporary duty before I was to be sent to Asmara Ethiopia. While in Greece, the Ethiopians decided we had worn out our welcome and the base was evacuated. Due to this I spent 2 years in Greece. Tough duty huh? After Greece I reported aboard the USS Manley (DD-940) to serve out the rest of my time. We made a Med cruise, went to the Artic Circle and made it down to Guatemala. I became a "Shellback" and a "Blue nose" on the same Cruise. The Manley was sent to the yards in Boston in 1980 while I was aboard and that is where I was discharged. I have been out for 28 years now and I still keep in touch with some of my shipmates from both duty stations.I try to explain to my kids that the Navy was my fraternity. The freinds you make there make a lasting impression and I have found I can still count on them to watch my back.
The reason I have joined this sight is that my daughter is thinking of a Navy career as a hospital corpsman. As of right now her and the recruiters are still trying to wrok out all the details and trying to get her free from work long enough to take the ASVAB, Wish her luck!
I have a question. When did all the Chiefs get so young? One of her recruiters is a Chief and he looks like a teenager that found a uniform!! haha Not what I remember a Chief to be.
Thanks again for having me.

Hi, my name is Aaron, really glad I found this site dedicated to Corpsman. I recently enlisted in the Navy under the National Call to Service program, I ship out April 9 2008. Right now I work as an EMT/Firefighter and love what I do but want to give back to my country. I am guaranteed my "A" school but not a "C" school. Would like to know more about securing a spot as a Field Corpsman (8404) in the fleet. Is there anything I can do in A school to increase my chances of getting into FMTB? Any info is welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks, Aaron
HM3 8404 vet here. I entered as undesignated and served on a carrier for 1 year. After returning from a med cruise, I went to "A" school and then on to fmss. I served as a Corpsman from April02-September05. I'm now in a nursing (RN) program, pursuing a BSN. I came on this site to see if any information was offered on educational opportunities for "DOCS," either while in the service or out, such as being able to challenge the CA board for your lvn license. I guess ultimately, I would like to see these opportunities presented in one place, broken down state by state, rather than having to search around on the internet for hours on end. If a doc were getting out and was able to see what options he/she had in the civilian sector for job prospects, it would make the transition that much easier. I guess that's it for now. Any ideas are always welcome.
Phink:
I hope you fully understand what an NCS contract is and exactly how it affects you.
Read the new 2008 changes for NCS Navy enlistment contracts here:
http://www.corpsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19381&highlight=national+call+service+2008+changes
Unless things have changed: You should be able to request FMTB to be written in on your contract providing you are going in as NCS or reservist. Normally, your pipeline would go like this.
1. RTC (boot camp)
2. Corpsman 'A' school
3. FMTB
4. Report to your reserve unit.
You're entitled to some bonus money, did you ask for that on your contract? If it's not written on your contract, it doesn't exist. You can read more about that here:
http://www.corpsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19352

I joined a while ago but haven't posted anything. I was a Corpsman from '95-'00. Did FMSS @ Camp Pendleton when it was still a choice in '96. Stationed at NMC San Diego, CA '96-'99. Augmented to 4th FSSG at the same time. In '99 stationed on the USS Harpers Ferry LSD-49. Got out in 2000. Went Navy Reserve to the 4th Mar Div but nothing happened. So I went ArmyNGR as a medic from '00-'04. Assigned to 49th MP Batt/670th MP Co. Also worked as a M.A. at a clinic in a homeless shelter. Then transferred to Alaska to the 207th Infantry Grp Scouts. Worked for Dept of Homeland Security. Left the Gaurd in '04. Transferred from DHS to Dept of Veterans Affairs in '06. Currently work as a Health Tech with Homeless Veterans Service. Gotta stay connected.

Well where do I begin, Boot Camp 1973 NTC San Diego, CA Co.#77, Hospital Corps "A" School, USNH, San Diego 1973, First Command: USNH, Camp Pendleton, CA 1973-1975, FMSS Camp Pendleton, CA 1975, First Engineer Battalion, BAS 1975, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa various commands. This was my first tour then after six years of broken service reacquainted with Naval Reserve Program. My first command was 1st Bn, 14 Marines from there it was an artillery battery followed by 3rd Anglico and then NR NH Campen total time was 15 years give or take all my time was as an 8404 Field Medical Service Technician. I wouldn't have traded my experiences for the world!
Welcome Aboard USMC DOC;
I think I was at Marine boot camp, (June 1973) at the same time you were at the Navy boot camp. Also, I was on Okinawa, 3rd MarDiv, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, Camp Hansen for most of 1974. With the exception of our WestPAC float. I just missed you in Okinawa.
Where do you hail from? I'm in Texas, but was raised in California.
Glad to have another person from the same time period as myself. Stay with us Doc, we have Tuesday night chats at 2100 EST, come and share some life experiences with us. http://www.corpsman.com/forum/chat/flashchat.php
Remember the Yaki Soba noodles, Orion rice beer, those wonderful steam baths ......
I posted on the NewB's forum, but I added more here. My name is Joe and my service was with the 2d Mar Div assigned to 1/6 and 1/2 as Sr. Corpsman for weapons company. I was attached to them from 95 to 97. I was injured during a training exercise when one of my Marines went into heat stroke. I did my job and he recovered; however, in the act I took his gear and added it to my pack and hence injured my back. I do not look at it as dumb or arrogant. I think of it more as a sacrafice for a group of people that are trained to take a bullet for us. It was the least I could do. I still think back to the fun that I had with the "War Pigs"!!! I have since gotten out of medicine and am a builder in Atlanta. I am joining to connect with others that are part of the brotherhood of Docs.
Thanks for listening
Joe
8404 Doc
Welcome aboard 8404 Doc;
I'm sorry to hear about the injury. A Marine brother would have done the same for you.
Thanks for the supportive words. I would never doubt that they would do anything to the contrary.
This is a great site
Just so ya know, I'm former infantry Marine. Yea, we'd do it, for our Docs. You bet!

My name is SN van Weyden and I enlisted about a year ago. I made through about half of a language course at DLI and then failed out. However, this allows me to pick another school. (kinda) I just want to talk with some real FMF Corpsmen to figure out if FMF Corpsman is what I'm looking for.
SN van Weyden:
Out of curiosity what language were you learning? I posted some links that may interest you until you can connect with some active duty FMF Corpsman. Hello to the staff at Corpsman.com. Obviously I'm new to the site but i seems like a great setup, I look forward to chatting with everyone. About me: I'm 19, waiting for a medical waiver to come through so I can re-enlist with the Navy and become a corpsman. I was on Parris Island for 5 weeks as a USMC recruit but was sent home on a medical 'technicality' out of my control. Fortunately I was given a MR-3P re-enlistment code so here I wait for a piece of paper that says I can go. My AFQT is a solid 95, I'm motivated and I hope to learn all I can about what it takes to be a corpsman from this site. Thanks.
