I was just wondering what can Feet Returnees expect at Corps School?

Fleet returnees sometimes have the hardest time adapting to NHCS, simply for the fact that they come here with the expectation that they will be treated very differantly from the students from boot camp. Yes, they are given advances in phase liberty early on, and they are exempt from certain SDC-A classes, but first and foremost, they are a STUDENT and the non-fleet returnees look up to the fleet returnees because they have "been there and done that", so the Fleet returnees need to be aware that they are always being looked at. Many of the things that happen here will be a shock to the fleet returnees, but they just have to keep in mind that the majority of students here just came from boot camp. Come here with an open mind and ready to learn and a love of the job, and you will do fine.

I still have a few more questions. Does Warfare pin help as in liberty and class leaders? Are the fleet returnees still choosing their own orders? What about old Command Ball Caps and Belt Buckles? I was just wondering because I will be attending Corps School in Oct.

Warfare devices help w/ phase liberty. As far as class leaders, thet depends on your motivation and your bearing. As a fleet returnee, you will be looked at first for the class leadership positions. Command ball caps and buckles are authorized. As far as orders, well that changes on a monthly basis, so I can't tell you what it will be in Nov-Dec timeframe for you.

From a students standpoint...fleet returnees tend to NOT get along with anyone but other fleet returnees...I think this is a combination of both you knowing what is going on in the "REAL" navy and us being fresh from boot camp. There were SEVERAL fleet returnee "dirtbags" (yes I am quoting my instructor here) that just come back with a better than thou attitude and really dont do what they are expected to do...is that fair to them? no clue...but the onus is certainly put on them to know more...
on the flip side I think that the boot campers dont take too easily to be given even more orders by someone that they might or might not see as an equal...its up to both you and the instructors to remind them that indeed life may or may not be fair but the Navy doesnt care...not in the least...you are a petty officer (or not) but your warfare pins and three rows of ribbons demonstrate that you have been there and done that and the booters need to understand that...
My advice to you...come in and realize where you were and where you are going...as Q pointed out to a VERY over zealous returnee one day...YOU CHOSE to come back and return to student status...keep your things in order (unlike my returnee roommate who came back and got us 2 room failures his first week here before they moved him) and definitely embrace the leadership roles...these guys are still kids and still need that extra supervision.
Good luck to you...cant wait to see you here :)

I agree with your statement beacause of when i was in Pensacola, Fl for apprenticeship training, the Fleeters pretty much ran it. A couple of them were dirt bags also. I just know i will not be that dirt bag or jerk. One thing i dont like about being next to great lakes is the metality that some people have up there. Maybe i just had bad experiences. But i do look foward to A School.

I'm a fleet returnee currently here. My suggestion would be to get yourself squared away now. Have a desire to lead because you will be scrutinzed the hardest, especially by your classmates who aren't fleet returnees. It's a lot of fun if you come in with a desire to learn and help your shipmates. I'm having a blast. The instructors are a little more at ease with you, but expect a lot more from you. I'm an Master at Arms, Asst. Adjutant and Platoon Leader in my class and it's challenging, but extremely rewarding. LEAD FROM THE FRONT. HOO RAH.

Hows it going mestup3117? I'm a good friend of Sailor85. I was told there has been a lot of fleet returnee's that has cross rated to HM. I was wondering if there a large groupd of Fleet Returnee at NHCS? I too, am a bit excited to go to corps school but I had bad experience working with dirtbags/jerks. I'm hoping there isn't none there. Anywho, thank you for your time and hope to hear from you!

Well now...short of quoting my general spiel, I will paraphrase. You are a fleet returnee. You have the experience and the other students look up to you. Use your head and make the right deciscions and set the example, and you should do fine. We look to you to be our eyes and ears in the classrooms when we are not there, so INTEGRITY is first and foremost. We need to be able to trust you and so do the other students. If you are senior to them, petty officer, etc. you must draw a line. You are a leader. You can step down and "put their shoes on" and show them that you can come down to their level and relate to them, but NEVER let them believe that they can come up to yours. You are senior and you have to keep that in mind. Yes, you are all students, but you are the leader and you must carry yourself as such.
