Hey fellow Corpsman, and I'm sure for most, my seniors.

HR Hicks here, just got my rating this summer, and at the moment am still a student, in the hospital, as getting my dental NEC. I just got my orders this afternoon; Rota, Spain.

I'm really excited, lucky as hell, and sort of nervous. I don't know what to expect, and I've got a feeling that no matter how hard I prepare, a number of things are still going to hit my from a blind side. I was hoping that someone here was once stationed at that Naval Base, and could give a heads up, or some advice. Of course, I've no doubt that just about every one of you could give me some good advice.

I'm not shy about reading material, so if anyone can give me some URLs, or some easy to find/cheap books to pick up, I'll definitely look into it. I've no idea when I leave yet, though; I'll probably be on hold for a good while.

(This is my first post here so far. Looks to be a great place. I hope it really takes off.)

Shipmate,

A couple of things, Congrats as ROTA is a hard billet to get right out of CORPS-School.

1. ROTA is not a US Base, it belongs to SPAIN (NATO).

2. I called ROTA the gateway to EUROPE. This is a once in a lifetime experience enjoy it as most pay $$$$$$ to get there, and you can fly for free on Space "A" while you are there all over Europe.

3. Don't be the "TYPICAL" US citizen. In other words people are being watched there, do your anti-terrorism class before you go.

Most of all enjoy yourself!!!
