Haven't seen this yet, but it's getting great reviews from our friends...other Navy peeps...so plan to check it out soon.
Just wondering if you think this is one better saved for a home viewing? Emotionally? I hate to cry in public.

This movie was awesome! I got to see it on a port visit to Sasebo, Japan and let me tell you, it did our beloved Corps proud! The primary focus of the flick revolved around Doc Bradley, as he seemed to be the main character of movie. I can't count how many "Doc!" and "Corpsman!" I heard throughout the epic movie. And boy, does Ryan Phillipee (Doc John Bradley) stand out when he stands with his Marines and is the only one wearing Dress Blues with the old school red cross under his crow. Can't wait for it to hit DVD!

I can't wait to buy it too! My 6 y/o son now knows who Doc Bradley is.
I too saw the movie. There were several reasons I saw the movie, the first being that I am a member of the proud botherhood of being an HM (in my case now retired) and also, I lived in a small town just 15 miles south of Antigo WI were John Bradley lived. Needless to say I thought Clint Eastwood did a fantastic job in making the film, but I was a bit disappointed in the numbers of people who've seen it thus far. If you are an HM (past, present, or future) it is a must see. Also, I did read an autographed copy of the book too.

I have read the book and seen the movie. Very good book and good movie. I have also read " A Corpsman's Legacy" Both of these books are excellent. This sould be a movie too
Thought it was a good movie,it is a GREAT book. Should beREQUIRED reading.
While you're on James Bradley's work, another good read is "Flyboys". It gives a very good account from both sides of the war (Japan/U.S.) helping us understand better the reasoning behind Japan's involvement in WWII.

The sequel to the movie which was filmed at the same time is called LEtters from Iwo Jima...its actually suprisingly even better than the first movie...the first one was moving but in all honesty I cried pretty hard at the second...my god...

Reading the book now. As for the movie, I think I will have to wait and rent it, because I am already getting emotional reading the book. Don't want to be a blubbering idiot in the movie theatre. This is a very moving story and sometimes, I can feel my stomache twisting, just the thoughts of what these men saw, described in this book, makes me sick. Especially when they talk about what the Japanese did to the Chinese(the pregnant woman and babies, disgusting).

I have not seen the movie yet, but I really would like to see it. I heard its good just don't know how my PTSD would respond, but hey I would survive.
I read the book and it kept me going, I couldn't put it down untill I was done. Hope the movie is as good as the book though.
Haven't read the book but did buy it for my son (Kahuna5150) who left it in my backseat when we dropped him off at NHCS on Jan 2nd - so I packed it in a box and shipped it back to him- he started reading it before he left and was disappointed about forgetting it in the truck - but is looking forward to getting it in the mail and getting back to reading it.
Hopefully he will share it with me when he finishes it.
Hi,
I was really disappointed in the movie....I guess maybe it was accurate; but I feltthe movie tried to show the government in a bad light and undermine the purpose of the governments effort to raise money to support the troops after the country had lost the stomach for it.. (sound familiar?) I just didnt see it as a co-incidence for the timing of this movie.
I think what I am trying to say is, they focused so much on the scandal, and not really alot onWHY the government was doing the tour around the country to begin with.
Not meaning to be a stick in the mud; I just felt at a time when we have enough problem getting some people to buy into this war in Iraq, it just makes it worse to see a movie where the government looks even more like a circus act.
My husband left before it was over.

bought our copy yesterday and watched as soon as we got home - haven't read the book so I can't compare them - I did like the movie though and would recommend it to others.
