Greetings, I have been doing some research on EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) and I cannot find out for sure if any billets are covered by an HM.
Apparently there is a Dive Medical technician (DMT) that handles the medical support and not a true Corpsman.
The Marines have Corpsman on their EOD teams, why not Navy EOD?
Can anyone here confirm that Corpsman are not found on the Navy EOD teams.
Thanks.

Have you researched how to become a "Dive Medical technician (DMT)" yet? That may answer most of your questions.

Greetings.
As far as I know somewhere along the line the Corpsman losses the caduceus and becomes EOD. Exactly the way the HM who becomes a SEAL has a new rating, SO, but is referred to as a medic and takes the same course load as before.
The following is from the Navy Diving and Salvage Training Center website: http://www.navydiver.org/NDSTC/default.html
• Diving Medical Technician (DMT) is a 119-day course designed to provide qualified Hospital Corpsman (HM) with the training necessary to perform surface-supplied diving as a team member/diver and to understand the responsibilities and duties of a diving supervisor. Instruction includes advanced diving physics, medicine and underwater physiology to enable the hospital corpsman to understand the effects of pressure on the human body and the treatment of diving related injuries such as the bends (DCS) and gas embolisms (AGE). There is particular emphasis on the use of Navy standard decompression tables. The prerequisite is qualification as Hospital Corpsman and since all US Navy Diving Medical Technicians (DMTs) are trained in all aspects of diving, the first 20-weeks is the same as the Diver Second Class training.
This lets me know that HM can go Navy Diver and focus on this path.
___
From what I understand one must become a Diver first before going EOD.
NEC 8493 would be required somewhere along the pipeline.
HM-8493 Medical Deep Sea Diving Technician
Assists medical officer in prevention and treatment of illnesses associated with deep sea diving and high pressure conditions. Operates pressure chamber and submarine rescue apparatus. Enters pressure chamber to care for patients suffering from decompression sickness. Performs diving and other duties related to underwater rescue.

I really do not have a clear pipeline mapped out here.
My guess it is:
RTC
NHCS
Begin the EOD pipeline
Somewhere along the way the Corpsman arcs of and takes the NEC 8493 school.
After joining back on the EOD pipeline and graduating the DMT courses are taken.
___
The reason I am interested in EOD is of course the heavy IED action taking place in Southwest Asia.
Currently there is a huge need for EOD. As you know I want to work and train with high quality Military personnel while providing the duties of a HM.

In Iraq, i was with MP battalion, we did EOD security on their missions, they had their own "EOD" HM plus one that was attatched to them that was 0000/8404.
