View Full Version : "A Corpsman's Legacy"
Well, ive got my copy of Ms Stephanie Hanson's book. The prolog got me thinking back to those days, MAG 16 was just over the fence from NSA Hospital. We owned the area during the day and the vc tried to own it at night. I always felt safe because there were all theseMarines close by to help. Cantwait to get into it deeper. To this day I can tell a chopper by its sound. We had to learn because it told us howmany wounded we might have. God Bless the Marines and their Corpsman. SemperFi always.

By Chance.. who did you get it from? Leatherneck or AMAZON?
:DWell, this book has me hooked, I read 118 pages last night. What memories the tape narrative brought back to me. I did not get to do medevacs, but the trips out to villages to do medcaps and the day to day rockets and mortars on our NSA compound are still vivid in my memory. I wonder if anybody remembers the 707 that accidentally landed on MAG 16 airport? Im so glad this book has been written. More of the Corpsman story will be read and understood by more people. I am sure the same, hopes, fears and aspirations are being repeated again and again by our new Corpsmen in Iraq and afganistan. The spirit and dedication of sailors like HN Gary Young are alive and flourishing in this new combat. How proud and humbled we are by men and women of his stature doing the job of saving lives and comforting the wounded. God Bless, cant wait to finish the book. Semper fi, John
Well this is my latest update. I finished "A Corpsman's Legacy" in two sittings. When i finished the book, it reminded me how i felt when the "all clear" was sounded after a rocket attact. The book left me breathless and beeming with pride that i was a small teeny part of the greatest medical department in the world. The format Ms Hanson used was very unique. Those email and personal accounts just painted a mental picture that was so vivid and real. I think we went to the same orphnange run by a vietnamese nun named sister mary. I remeber that most of our rocket attacks were because the vc were shooting at Mag 16 and the rounds fell short. I remember a corpsman who was killed by a mortar, who by providence had been put on a ward because he had a injured leg. All gave some, but some very special heroes gave all. How humbled I am when I think of their sacrafice. Anyway read the book. Keep some kleenex near and if it gets to intense call in puff the magic dragon and take a break. God bless and remeber our Corpsmen/women in harm's way. Semper Fi, john
