I don't leave for RTC until next February. In the meantime, my job allows me to be home by around 2-230 in the afternoon. Is there anywhere online where I can download or print out a copy of some study materials for FMTB or A-School? I have quite a bit of time on my hands and I want to put it to good use. Don't worry, I've been working out like a demon as is (running around 4 miles a day, etc.) so that's ok. I just want to get a bit of a head start on the academic side. Any suggestions?

Anatomy and basic first aid materials will get you a leg up. You can get those at any book store. You don't need to get into that much detail. Just hit the basics. Don't burn yourself out because you will get lots of study time. That's all there is to do at NHCS.

Do you have an NKO account and access to eLearning?

https://wwwa.nko.navy.mil

To access the NKO Knowledge Portal, you must first be authenticated as an authorized user. Authorized users include the following:
- Active Duty Navy and Marines/Uniformed Services Members;
- Reservists;
- Civil Service;
- Delayed Entry Personnel;
- Naval Academy Midshipmen;
- Retired;
- Retired Reserve; and
- Dependents

NKO authenticates users by checking the information you submit during registration against the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS), which contains up to date personnel information on all parts of the Defense Department Workforce.
NKO accounts that remain inactive for more than one year will automatically be deleted from the system. To prevent this from happening, users should login regularly.

Remember, as much as you may want to get your hands on a FMTB book. The link to the FMTB book supplied is from January 2001 and there have been MANY changes in Navy Prehospital Treatment and Tactical Combat Casualty Care. I looked over the material myself and it is Very outdated and wont help you much when it comes to taking your first exam. I know this because I helped revise, write, and edit, the FMTB East student handbook last year while I was working in the Academics Section. Since FMTB East is the Center of Excellence, Camp Pendleton follows our lead on everything. We at FMTB East and West both pride ourselves in providing the students with the most up to date medical knowledge out there. So be careful what you study. I'll notify my contact on the West Coast about the old link and see if they are publishing anything new for perspective students. Thanks Tac-Medic for the information, Some is better than none.
Respectfully Sent,
HM1 Paul

No But I have mentioned it a few times to our Academics Staff and I dont think they are willing to bite off on the idea. We all agree that both the Medical and Marine Corps ways of treating and preforming field skills change often. So our book will change to keep up with those bodies. I'll continue to ask our powers that be to place it on the web, and why not...It's not confidential material.

Having a single point of location for the authorized/approved FMTB manual makes a lot of sense. When the manual is updated/revised, it could then be uploaded and overwrite the old one.

One can even go as far as including revision dates and edition numbers to reflect the most current 'published' copy.

But, we also understand, the powers that be...............

Hello All, I got a chance to sit down after much running around these past few days and talk to the Academic Chief and LT. I gave them my motivated what for on placing the student manual on the FMTB web site for your viewing...and they BIT OFF ON IT!!! Im going to have the student Rules placed on the web site on Wednesday. This tells you what you can and cant do and also what to bring with you to Field Med. I will be waiting on Academics to shoot me the Manual on the 30th of April. I will have it placed up on or about the 5th of May. I know it is still a bit out but we need time to get it approved. You asked for it...You got it. I stated to the Chief, "I feel if we dont do this, we havent done everything for the students to prepair themselves for this class. We give them links to physical fitness routines, lets give them the Manual." Id like to thank my Chief B. Wheeler for standing by me and the rest of you perspective students to make Field Med a more professional arena in the Military Community. I cant wait!! Well I missed my deadline for this news letter, but wait to read about what Two Generals and an Admiral opened at Field Med last Friday. Pictures and Article comming!!

That is the best news we have had ever! Please express our sincere thanks to Chief B. Wheeler.

I firmly believe that providing everything upfront and before prospective students report in, would benefit them and aid in class preparation. There would be no surprises and perhaps make the instructors job that much easier.

FMF_DOC you could probably still get that story in to DeeDee. I'm sure she may hold the presses a bit.

Thanks again for your determination in pushing our request forward. This is awesome.

It will be interesting. When I went through in 1969, we got a litlle notebook that would fit in the shirt pocket of our utes - had about 100 pages.

The FMTB Student Manual and Student Handbook have been posted to the FMTB East website. Now everyone will know exactly what is expected at FMTB.

A special thank you and a job well done goes out to FMF_DOC and the leadership of FMTB East for allowing this to be posted on their website.

I believe prospective FMTB students, having access to this material, will better prepare them for this excellent school.
