I am looking for practical info on using Vonage overseas. I have found some info, but it sometimes conflicts. Anyone using it? I am looking specifically for Okinawa experience, but any would do. An alternate may be Webcams/MSN messager /Yahoo! messager/ skype etc. I know how it works (being a Professional computer geek) I just don't about it from the "does it work over there" point.

Thanks!

Hey DocDad,
I use Skype for everything, I talk to people in Germany and other areas. I don't see why it would not work there as it is coming off the IP address.

I love it.. you can also purchase phones as well now to use so you don't have to use a Headset etc..

Hope this helps..

Darrell
P.s I would be Leery of Vonage right now.. They are having "MAJOR" issues and might be out of business soon.

I agree with Da-Chief, Vonage has allegedly used some of Verizon's patented technology for VOIP, (Voice Over Internet Protocol). They were fined a sizable amount of money, which they may not be able to afford.

I appreciate all the info. I think we have settled (for now) on Web caming/chatting. The LT he uses has a built in Cam/Mic. I have one at home so it makes sense. The others that he might want to cam with are all going that route too so its easy. I was reading up on the vonage stuff... yea, might be iffy for a while.
