Ok..
There is a Reservist FMSS course that I would not reccomend to anyone..
IF you are NPSB, you are not eligible for it, you have to go to FMSS after you complete HM"A" School.
If you are a RESERVIST at a Reserve Center already yeah you can sign up for it, but it is "NOTHING" like going to the full FMSS..
The full course builds camaraderie etc.. makes you work as a team. I don't like PART TIME Crap..
JMHO..

Yeah. I concur with the Chief. By all means go to the full FMSS. I was an old NRAC era reservist, and fought tooth and nail to get into the full FMSS course.
It does build comraderie and team work, and looking back on it, its not very long.

Ok.....Hello everyone, I am new to this site and just found it, so hello from the MD, VA, DC area..... how do you do........
If you guys don't recommend the reserves program given, what is the other option? I am assigned to a seabee battalion - NMCB23 Ft Belvoir VA and was told I am most likely going to that same 2 phase program, as they didn't know whether or not I could do the AD one. Would you please advise on the differences between the two, and why you recommend one over the other. Also, where the training is and for how long......as I don't follow the sched as written by bigfishdesign, the numbers don't add up at all......lol I know I am tired but.........does he mean there are more than the 2 phases?

Get with your Career Counselor .. I take it your a female with your name.. If I am wrong, let me know.
It is extremely hard right now to get the "FULL COURSE" as a female. Camp Pendleton is closed for females this year as they are working on the Barracks. All females are attending Camp Lejuene NC.
Why do I like the 1 shot deal.. "TEAM WORK" you start as 60+ individuals and leave as "1" team. You get the Marine "MENTALITY" from start to finish if you do the full 52 dayprogram.
I don't (personally) like anything that cuts corners.
Just my oppinion mind you.
But becuase of limitations of space.. the 2 phase program might be what is best for you. I have the POC if you want to try to get the one shot deal. Drop me a email and I will forward it to you.

HM3-
I am hoping I can help some, I am also assigned to a Reserve Seabee Battalion (NMCB 25) and am the Medical LPO. I am currently working on getting one of our corpsman to the full FMSS school. Here is some information.
The course number for the full FMSS course is B-300-0013. You can locate this in CANTRAC II for course dates. I do know that there is a class starting around the end of March. It is possible as a HM with a Reserve Seabee Battalion to get a seat in this course, make sure you are in shape!!!! You should be able to get your medical Chief or LPO to help you run route this through training and OPS to get approval for you to attend the course. Training would be the one that will work to secure funding for you. This is not always an easy road but can be accomplished.

Just throwing my two cents in. I am a Reservist as well, and I went through the full FMSS program. Ask Chief about my history and he'll tell ya the mess thatI have been through in my short Naval career. Anyway, I just kept pushing the right buttons and was very persistant in my quest to become an 8404 Corpsman.I am currently serving with India Company 3/25 in Buffalo, NY and let me tell you....all the crap thatI have gone through to get here was hard, but very much worth it. We had about a dozen Reservists going through the "phase" program when I went through and in the end, only three of us actually did the whole 7 weeks. We didn't even know the other Reservists were gone. Trust me, you want the full meal deal if you can get it. It is tough and challenging, but if you have the heart and desire you can do it. I did it at 34 years old and I was not in the best shape when I got there, but I still kept up with the young ones, even doing better a lot of the time. Being on the "Green" side is the best Navy job there is, but if you are staying on the "Blue" side of the house, I would still recommend the full seven weeks if you can get it. I have learned that if you want something, you have to become a pain in the ass sometimes, and you'll get it. everyone is busy trying to take care of everyone else, but if you keep your name under their nose, you'll get results.....trust me.

It is possible to sit for the entire class. What you need to do is contact your unit if you are a 0000 and tell them you want to attend field med. Then the unit will need to contact their MSC. If they do not know who there MSC is, send me a message and I can get them that info. After the MSC gets the potential students info and such they will have to contact MFR HSS (the MSC will know what to do), and then HSS will get that infomation to N7 at CNRFC.
I know this seems like a lengthy process, but thats how the chain of command works. If you need more info on this, by all means contact me and I'll be sure to help you out the best that I can. I'll only be at MFR HSS until the March time frame, but i'll do my best to get you the right info even after I leave.

You also have to sign a contract that you will go to a "MARINE" unit now before a program 32 outfit will let you go.
The bureaucratic nightmare to get people to this school is nuts. The POC for this on the 32 side (BUMED) is HMC Hochea. I have his email if your interested. He has done much legwork to help people overcome obstacles to get this school.

Thank you everyone for replying! I definately want to get into the full course if possible, I know that much....................I have done more leg work and am still getting conflicting information, so if any or all of you would send me the info/contacts you've offered, I wouldGREATLY appreciate it, as I want to go in to my RC and to my battalion with all I can gather to present it to them and lay out what I have gotten from you. I understand that it is extremely difficult to get in the full course as a female, and that the max # of females assigned to a class is 3, with the max # of reservists accepted is like 5 or 10.
And if you have a part-time sched, you can throw that at me too.......
And Chief, or whoever could explain the schedule for me,I have the FY 07 in 2 phases (total 7 or 8 weeks??).....and the dates overlap so not sure how that works.....as my HMC said it confused him too, and I said I would ask around also...........

HM3,
I am a female and went to the full active duty FMSS. We don't even send any of our reservists to that two part crap...it's lame. I was formerly in a unit that offered you either option, those that went to the two part one, said they learned basically nothing. The full class is much better and will help you in the long run to learn to live and work with Marines and your fellow Devil Docs! I don't know why it is that so many people have a hard time getting into FMSS, we have no issues getting our docs sent down there. Whoever is in your training dept at your Reserve Center must not have a clue what they are doing.
Additionally, there is not a three female limit on FMSS. When I went, there were about 60 females...however only 22 of us graduated. It's a very physically challenging school. You better be able to run three miles and have some good strength and endurance before you go. I do think that they try to keep the reserve numbers to about ten or so, but there aren't that many reservists trying to get in either. I personally know the academics chief at Lejeune, should you need some help with getting a quota for a class. Go on CANTRAC, you'll find the dates there for the full active duty FMSS. There is one starting in March, though I heard it's full. The next one would be in June. Chief is correct, in that Pendelton isn't currently taking females (to bad, that's where I went and it's better than Lejeune).
If you have any further questions, you can send me a PM on here and I'll be happy to get you some contact info.

Quick question about an average day of pt there. You said above running three miles. But will you go over some of the physical aspects we will be doing throughout the day? Thanks for your info, anything will help. I want to go into this completely prepared and able to show the males that women belong there too.
