As some of you may know, I've recently been attached to the 31st MEU. We are deploying in two days for a float. We should be hitting Phillipeans, Hong Kong, Korea, and possibly Cambodia. Should be getting back around the first part of December. Since I will only have access to government email, this will be my last post for a little while. I'll be sure to snap some photos and let everyone know how my cruise went. Recommendations to new people looking to join:
boot camp sucks, get in shape, you are going to FMTB, get in shape for that as well, A school is as long as you make it, get mentally in shape for that, green side is better than blue, no one can tell you where you're going after a school, go active, not reserve or NCS. That should knock out about 50% of the posts around here.
Take care.

Viper,
Becuase Like Kentucky and I have learned at NHCS, once Reserve Students get there they want to be on Acitve Duty and can't. I would say that happend about 85% of the time..

Hi Chief, I'd like to give my 2 cents worth. As an HM who retired from the reserves, but also had 5 years of active duty, I would suggest that anyone who considers becoming an HM give serious thought as to whether you want to go on active duty as opposed to the 1 weekend a month, two weeks a year reserve routine. Don't make a quick decision of your choice, look at your life situation, ie; education, employment, family, geographic location, time commitment, and so on. Once you make up your mind and sign the contract, hopefully you'll have made the best choice for you and one that you can will be able to live with. Impulse descisions are something you won't to avoid whenever you can with anything in life.
As for myself, I did active duty first, and then after a few years of time off, I enlisted in the reserves, for me, this was the best way to go, even though I was activated twice, I have no regrets and am extremely proud to have served for 25 years. Like I said, for others, please make the best choice that you can live with.
Thanks for serving this great country,
Brian

I am with you BJpete, totally, I was the reverse, Reserve then put in a package to go active and did 22 years active. It is so much harder to go from Reserve to Active these days though as they are so short for the FMF Reserve and it is a vital part of the Navy and the Marines..

Good Gouge all heed his warning!
