In late August I contacted then TN Ride Captain Jeff Saunders. I was informing him of a potential mission taking place in Jackson TN here. I was quickly given Ride Captain status and worked with the brother and wife of the deceased. AZCS Robert Coleman JR age 48 had died from cancer just 2 years after retiring. He had a funeral in MD and the family was burying him here. simple mission, I figured ok I can do this.
Well his cremated remains were here in Jackson. The family had been advised it was easier to ger Senior Chief home to Jackson that way. Already incurring one funeral home cost in MD, the family opted to do his burial by them selves. A check with state laws gave them the ok to dig the hole themsleves (as long as they owned the plot). They set up the preacher, a family friend.
All that was needed was full military honors and PGR participation. On September 1st, we stood 65 strong (one rider and her daughter from WI in TN on family reunion visit) and with the Navy honors team from NSA Millington doing an exceptional job (!!!!) we laid another great American to rest and gave comfort to the family and friends.
I had gotten ahold of 4th Marines in Nashville and spoken to an HM2 there. He got the paperwork out, I answered the questions on the form via phone, then he faxed them to Millington. He then made the trip out to be there as well.
Regional Ride Captain for the south east (MARCO is his name), made it official when he handed me my Ride Capatain patch prior to our leaving the staging area.
My apologies for not being in here and getting things in order. I ahve had nearly every opportunity to come in here taken away. It is camping season for the Lee family. My wife and I enjoy the woods this time of year. Most camp sites are nearly epmty, the cooler weather allows us the ability to enjoy thse fires I am famous for. I once started a cook fire in a torential down pour using tactics learned in the Boy Scouts and one yes only one match!
If I don't get in here on Saturdays from now on, I'm in the woods. See ya more in December. I'll work on finding a better schedule to get all my fantasy football, hockey, corpsm,an.com and iother network stuff done.
