"disgusted" doesn't even begin to describe how that made me feel.

Your right, this kind of garbage has plagued the Navy in many different forms over the past 30 years and maybe more. It was there before in various ways, but I dont remember it being so widespread as it seems today. I read the NTs and "The Proceedings" and I keep informed in other ways. What disturbs me so much these days are the number of Commanding Officers, other Type Commanders and Senior Enlisted men who are either relieved for cause, non confidence or non military behavior. It used to be ,"What can I contribute that will make the Navy better, rather than, "What is the Navy going to do for me?" Who are writing the evaluations for advancement? Maybe this is related somehow to the diluting of the Chiefs role and responsibilities in the Navy or maybe it is a result of politically correcting the Naval Mission. Words mean something and Courage, Committment, Honor, Country and Duty mean something. Why are sailors expected to be sailors only certain times a day? Why are the time honored rituals of passage diluted and neutralized to meaninglessness?
I hope the Naval Leadership wakes up and reexamines its history, goals and builds a new leadership framework base on past proven methods.
I remember that as a sailor I was a sailor 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I was a sailor in uniform and out of uniform. I new that my conduct had to be above reproach and that everything I did or did not do would reflect on My Navy and my Country. Was I perfect? Of course not. But I remember there was that Chief or SLPO who would put the fear of God in me when needed and would be there when I was down or needed help.
It will take a long time for the Navy and the HC to recover from this incident. I hope everyone learns from this tragedy. God Bless America and the Hospital Corps.

As I said previously, the leadership in the Navy needs to seriously be revamped. My prayers and tears go out to this Officer who has made the ultimate protest to life.
What is going on at Kitsap? I hope there is a NBK and Command wide intervention team dispatched to help everyone. God only knows what any sailor, junior or senior must be thinking right about now. God Bless them as they get through this turbulent sea. OldDoc1
ps as an example of what I was talking about, I was there a couple of times in the past few years. Why do we let our sailors dress like gangsters when they are off duty? I was visiting a ship berthed there and if I had been the CMC, I would have been at the quarterdeck each day to inforce a civy dress code that would bring credit to the Naval Service. What happed to the dress code? Where are the leaders counseling, encouraging and enforcing a clean cut military image?
