MCDGexx,
I have a friend that just finished AVT school. I'll ask him what the particulars are and get back to you.

Write to Poolzer (PM Would get him) and ask him, he has been SAR for years but now is also a Forced "AVT" he just went to school last year.
Understand, he hates paperwork and would rather hang from a perfectly good aircraft then sit in a cool comfortable clinic.
:not:
I tend to agree with him, but he can tell you about the school and SAR.

I got in contact with a buddy of mine that just finished AVT and SAR school. He said he is going to drop by and try to answer your questions. If I don't see a post from him within the next couple of days, i'll go straight to the source down in P'cola.
I could answer for when I went almost 12 years ago, but I doubt that the rules are the same as when I went through.

honestly A car would help you out a lot HM1 got ahold of me to lend a helping hand. I just finished AVT and Aircrew. Being a non fleet returnie will make it rough but better than corps school. The schools them selves are not bad just long. On your orders are you going through the whole pipe line?

I could answer, but my info is 20 yrs old . I think we still flew the curtis jenny biplanes back then. When finished, you'll go to a great world. Be sure to get HSL's!!! you will love the pilots. So much nicer than jet jocks or the fixed wing bozos in P3s and other prop jobs with two handfuls of waivers!! HSL pilots are for real, human type folks. Trust me, I have been in 18's, and HS squadrons. I have also witnessed first hand the entire airwing mentality on a carrier. HSL is the only community worth going to! The rest can treat ya like dirt real fast.

That's very true puck. I've been to Props on the Carrier and to P-3's, and last the Marine Airwing....I definately would rather be with Helo's.
Awesome guys thanks for the reply. Only 9 days till graduation.

I would really like to find some people in these fields too. I am going 8401 in June, and would love to talk with someone who is/has been SAR. I am really excited about it, but could def use a little help with determining what I need to get ready for school.

well run yer tail off and start swimming. Lots of swimming!!! Vary the work out so you don't get bored or you don't over do same muscles. Run as often as you can but no more than four times a week. Swim three times a week. Eventually add fins to the swim. Upper body use push ups, pull ups, chest thrusts and chest pulls. If you can get on a rowing machine hit that twice a week for 45 minutes.
Leg presses, leg flexion and extensions with wieghts. Flutter kicks and crunches for the abdominals and waist line areas. Don't forget to get sleep and eat fruits and vegies more so than meat. Your meat choices should include fish. Tuna and salmon are loaded with Omega 3's and are solid producers for energy as well. I feel more alive after a fish based diet than ever.
I also think mind teezers and puzzles help the brain fight off fatigue. The body needs the push but so will your brain. The instructors will try to tell you you don't belong. If you're strong physically ok but mentally weeak, you may ask to leave if pushed. Show them you DO belong.
There is no finer thing than saving a life. Be it as an HM or as a SAR jumper it still is noble. As an HM and a jumper, you'll be well equipped.
Im a bit late to this thread, please PM me any questions you have about the 8401/8406 pipeline and I will address them and discuss more about our community.
