By Gil Brandt (http://www.nfl.com/writers/brandt)
NFL.com Senior Analyst

(Oct. 25, 2006) -- As Halloween approaches, NFL fans should get ready for tricks, treats and more hair-raising, last-second finishes.

It looks like offenses are starting to get on the same page and produce more yards and points than they did earlier in the season. In the past two weeks, we've had three of the four most productive games by receivers and running backs, and three of the five most productive passing days. Last week, we had six of 13 games with 50-plus points scored.

This is a tough week for fantasy owners, with QB questions in Seattle, Pittsburgh and Dallas. Here's a look at the fantasy matchups for this week:

49ers at Bears: The Bears are second overall on defense, second vs. the run, fourth vs. the pass. But in 2005, San Francisco ran the ball 46 times against Chicago and had some success. I like RB Frank Gore (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/411568), because he'll get some yards both running and catching ... For Chicago, I like everyone here. In three home games, QB Rex Grossman (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396159) has eight TD passes and a 118 rating, and the Bears have scored 34 or more in each game. Last year, RB Thomas Jones (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187390) was injured and backup Adrian Peterson (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/302105) had a big game against the 49ers. WR Bernard Berrian (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/492890) is emerging as a big-play threat and PK Robbie Gould (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/553121) is still perfect (18 for 18) in FG tries. The 49ers are 28th on defense.

Falcons at Bengals: Atlanta has averaged 222 rushing yards per game and the Bengals are 25th against the run. Look for Atlanta to play ball-control here, which means RB Warrick Dunn (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1171) has a big game. You have to factor in RB Jerious Norwood (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/417822) as well, not to mention QB Michael Vick (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235253) and TE Alge Crumpler (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235206) ... For Cincinnati, I like RB Rudi Johnson (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235094) and WR Chad Johnson (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235222), along with QB Carson Palmer (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396173) and WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/235086). It may not seem like the Bengals are the same high-scoring offense they were last year, but they're still averaging 21 points per game.

http://images.nfl.com/photos/img9754553.jpg

The Cardinals should be able to get the ball to Anquan Boldin once again.
Cardinals at Packers: I like QB Matt Leinart to bounce back this week, with the help of WRs Anquan Boldin and Bryant Johnson, who had his best game ever last week. I still don't think you can play RB Edgerrin James -- the Cards are 32nd in rushing and can't seem to run on anyone ... For Green Bay, I like QB Brett Favre and RB Ahman Green. Check the injury status of WR Greg Jennings. WR Donald Driver should do well.

Seahawks at Chiefs: Seneca Wallace starts at QB for the injured Matt Hasselbeck -- you'll see a lot of bootlegs and rollouts. The only other Seahawk worth playing here is WR Darrell Jackson. The Chiefs have quietly improved a lot on defense ... For Kansas City, I like RB Larry Johnson to stay hot. TE Tony Gonzalez finally broke out last week. In their last 16 home games, the Chiefs have a positive turnover ratio.

Ravens at Saints: With the departure of offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, you have to go back to see what Brian Billick did when he last called plays. With that in mind, I like RB Jamal Lewis and TE Todd Heap. QB Steve McNair is close to home here and I think he'll have a decent but not great game ... For New Orleans, I like QB Drew Brees and WRs Marques Colston and Joe Horn. It's tough to run on the Ravens, who are third overall on defense and second vs. the run. So don't expect much from Deuce McAllister or Reggie Bush (though Bush will be used more in the passing game).

Buccaneers at Giants: The Barber Bowl ... I don't think Tampa Bay can block the Giants' front line, so the only chance is if RB Cadillac Williams gets some yards. QB Bruce Gradkowski will be limited to short drops and short throws, so maybe TE Alex Smith is worth a play ... I like QB Eli Manning and WR Plaxico Burress. Of course RB Tiki Barber is a must-start, but keep in mind he's got 57 total yards and 0 TDs in four games against the Bucs.

Jaguars at Eagles: This is an interesting game, and I can't decide if it'll be high scoring or a tough, low-scoring game ... I like QB Byron Leftwich, but check the injury status of WR Matt Jones because his presence will impact the Jacksonville passing game. I like RB Maurice Jones-Drew, but the Jaguars are very inconsistent on offense ... For Philadelphia, I think WR Donte' Stallworth will play this week and do well. You can also expect good things from WR Reggie Brown, RB Brian Westbrook and, of course, QB Donovan McNabb, who is having a monster year leading the NFL's top-ranked offense.

Texans at Titans: I like RB Wali Lundy, and WR Andre Johnson, who is quietly having a very nice season. Houston QB David Carr is completing more than 70 percent of his passes. The play Kubiak likes when they get the ball inside the 10-yard line is a play-action pass to rookie TE Owen Daniels ... For Tennessee, I like QB Vince Young, RB Travis Henry -- he'll get a lot of carries here -- and WR Drew Bennett.

Rams at Chargers: For San Diego, the one thing everyone wants to know is that LB Shawne Merriman will play the next two weeks while appealing his suspension ... The Rams offense was different the last time they faced the Chargers, but QB Marc Bulger threw four TDs in that game. I think WR Torry Holt will continue his hot pace here, but I don't expect much from RB Steven Jackson against a San Diego defense that is much better at home ... For the Chargers, I like RB LaDainian Tomlinson as a triple threat (perhaps throwing the ball in addition to running and catching). I like TE Antonio Gates and QB Philip Rivers. Rivers is cooling down a little, but he still has nine TD passes in six games. Like the defense, San Diego's offense is better at home.

http://images.nfl.com/photos/img9754555.jpg

Don't be surprised if Leon Washington does well, though he may not score.
Jets at Browns: A matchup of the last two defensive coordinators from the Patriots, Eric Mangini and Romeo Crennel ... For the Jets, I like RB Leon Washington in this game. He scored two TDs last week, but keep in mind that RB Kevan Barlow will get the carries near the goal line. WR Laveranues Coles and QB Chad Pennington should do something ... I think Cleveland will play better on offense with new coordinator Jeff Davidson. You can play RB Reuben Droughns and WR Braylon Edwards. QB Charlie Frye has been inconsistent, as all young QBs are. The Jets are 30th overall on defense, but the Browns are 32nd on offense.
Colts at Broncos: This is an interesting matchup of the Colts' high-powered offense against Denver's terrific defense ... For Indianapolis, I like QB Peyton Manning and WRs Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison. It's really tough to run and score on Denver -- they'll allowed under 90 rushing yards per game ... For Denver, I like Tatum Bell big-time. I also like WR Javon Walker, who's better on grass. The last time Walker faced the Colts on grass, he had 11 catches for 200 yards and three TDs. QB Jake Plummer is inconsistent, but Indianapolis' defense is not as good outdoors as indoors.

Steelers at Raiders: Who's playing QB for Pittsburgh? Both could do well here, but Ben Roethlisberger was starting to break out and he's the guy who has a chance to do something -- if he plays. On Wednesday, he took limited snaps in practice but had yet to be medically cleared. This might be a game-time decision, so be sure to check the Fantasy Extra inactives update link on Sunday morning ... I also like RB Willie Parker, and WRs Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes -- the rookie receiver had five catches for 91 yards last week. You might be surprised to know that the Raiders allow 33 fewer yards per game than Pittsburgh ... For the Raiders, I like QB Andrew Walter, who is starting to come on a bit -- but there is some question about his health. If Walter plays, look for WR Randy Moss to catch some passes. It's hard to run against Pittsburgh, so don't expect much from any Raiders RBs.

Cowboys at Panthers: The Dallas QB situation will have a big impact on owners who have TE Jason Witten. Had Drew Bledsoe remained the starter, Witten would have had to stay put to help block DE Julius Peppers. But with the more mobile Tony Romo in the lineup, Witten will catch more passes ... The last time these teams met, RB Julius Jones ran for 194 yards and two TDs ... For Carolina, I like RB DeShaun Foster. Offensive coordinator Dan Henning always seems to find a way to run on 3-4 defenses. You can also play QB Jake Delhomme and WRs Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson. Smith has 20 TDs in his past 24 games.

Patriots at Vikings: This probably will be a low-scoring game, though I like QB Tom Brady, RB Laurence Maroney (who is playing in his college stadium here) and WR Doug Gabriel. Brady had three TD passes in his only previous game against Minnesota. Still, the Vikings rank third against the run and allow just 277 overall yards per game ... For Minnesota, I like RB Chester Taylor, Minnesota's version of Brian Westbrook.

Did you know?
1. The Bears have scored 111 points in three home games and have outscored opponents by 121 points through their first six games.

2. The Bengals have never lost to an NFC team at home under Marvin Lewis (7-0).

3. The Cardinals have not beaten the Packers at home since 1955; the Packers are 7-0 in those contests. The two teams squared off for the first time in 1921, back when the Cardinals were playing in Chicago, and the first game ended in a 3-3 tie.

4. Tony Gonzalez (Chiefs) has caught a pass in 90 consecutive games.

5. Matt Stover (Ravens) has made 30 field goals in a row -- the longest active streak in the NFL.

6. Brian Westbrook (Eagles) became the first player since 2002 to have 100-plus running and receiving yards in a game last week against Tampa Bay.

7. Torry Holt (Rams) became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 10,000 yards (116 games). Holt had three touchdowns in his last game, which was a personal best.

8. Eric Mangini (Jets) set a school record at Wesleyan University in Connecticut for sacks with 36½. His first job in pro football with the Cleveland Browns was as a Browns ball boy in 1994.

9. Peyton Manning (Colts) has thrown a touchdown pass in 26 of the 29 NFL stadiums he has played in. He has not thrown a touchdown pass at Invesco Field, the Edward Jones Dome or Qwest Field.

10. Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning have connected for 97 touchdowns -- the most in NFL history.

11. Rod Smith (Broncos) needs one catch to surpass Hall of Famer Steve Largent for 12th most in NFL history. He currently has 819.

12. Hines Ward (Steelers) has caught a pass in 125 consecutive games and became the first Steeler to catch 600 pass against Atlanta.

13. Chester Taylor (Vikings) is on pace to set the Vikings record for single-season rushing attempts (295). His 95-yard touchdown run against Seattle was a Vikings record.

14. If the Colts win this weekend, they will be only the second team in NFL history to start 7-0 in consecutive years. The Green Bay Packers started 7-0 (or better) in 1929, 1930 and 1931 and won NFL championships all three years. (Playoffs in the NFL did not start until 1933.)

15. Trivia: There have been 10 sets of twins to play in the NFL. Can you name the two sets playing this year?

The Barbers: Tiki and Ronde
The Bullocks: Daniel and Josh

16. The five quarterbacks with the most passing yards in one stadium:
John Elway, Mile High Stadium -- 27,889
Brett Favre, Lambeau Field -- 24,839
Dan Marino, Dolphins Stadium -- 23,950
Dan Fouts, Qualcomm Stadium -- 23,585
Jim Hart, Busch Stadium -- 18, 110
