Roger that bubba....I'm with Echo. co 2/23 Marines out of San Bruno Ca. We are deploying!
We need good Corpsmen bad. We are an infantry unit and will be mobing in Oct after 2 back to back ATs in Sept. get intouch with me and I will direct you to the right people.

FYI you need to be very squared away, its all business now and we need "Docs" who can hang with INFANTRY Marines, ie. HUMP, train and pull off IVs in the Dark when you are dead tired. They are a great bunch of Marines though and if you are looking to deploy with a unit that will actually spend time outside the wire then get in touch.

For the most part, Navy Reserve Docs don't deploy with a unit unless they are attached to a Marine reserve unit as a Doc. I'm with 4th Med Bn, and we mostly deploy as IAs. Right now I'm in CP getting ready to depoly with 1st Med. BTW if you want to be in 4th Med there H&S is in Merrimar (sp?)

A good 8404 that is volunteering to deploy with a Marine unit will get grabbed up pretty quick 90% of the time (assuming the current command does not block it)

After a short interview and display of compentency, most units preparing to mobilize should be able to submit a by-name request to New Orleans so that the volunteer is included on their list....

outdoorpro:

See my post on voluntary IA duty: http://www.corpsman.com/forum/showthread.php?p=27194#post27194

Following is an except:

Wanted: IA skills

These are the top 10 ratings most likely to be asked to take on an individual augmentee assignment, based on how well those skill sets match needs in the war zone:

* Hospital corpsman
* Master-at-arms
* Information systems technician
* Storekeeper
* Yeoman
* Fire controlman
* Operations specialist
* Personnel specialist
* Cryptologic Technician
* Aviation warfare systems operator

Corpsman is the number one pick for wanted IA billets, however I'm not sure if that is referencing an 8404 or a 0000 or both. For that you will have to check with below mentioned systems or your command.

For the enlisted ranks, officials have identified 10 ratings that the joint world needs the most in the combat zones.

IA billets in those ratings — and billets for any other ratings that might come along — will be advertised through the online Career Management System and Interactive Detailing system, along with all other regular open assignments.

“Sailors will see those jobs and apply for them just as they would for any other tour,” Masso said.

Outdoorspro,

A 0000 HM2, WOW! In reference to your question, you are more likely to get picked up with MLG as an attachment to a SurgCo or FRSS as an unrated HM2. Division has great needs right now, however on my last pump we took no 0000s but rather pulled 8404s from other units, so I am not quite certain that you would get pulled there. Hope you get where you want to go.

What I've seen happen is they take a 0000 and mob him early, so he can attend field med. Then he can be pushed out to the Division, I think even the MLG wants you to be 8404.

I believe your right about MLG. As a matter of fact,they just called me up from Division and asked me to go with them in September. And I just got back from a deployment.. It seems my Chief gave them my name and said I would be an asset to their team... which was very cool of my Chief, but I really don't wanna go back on deployment since i just got home. And there is the fact that the wife isn't gonna be happy either if I say yes.....

they did the same for me too, i was a Quad 0, and i was doing the Reserve FMSS school, anyway I was mob'd and sent to CLJ in 2003, I was attached to H&S BAS but never did deploy. This time I deployed with MLG (currenly CLB-1) here in the sandbox.

your chain isn't going to help you to much. If you want this bad enuff you need to do some research and take the initiative. hit the websites, look at vol ops, call MOBCOM and ask.
