I'm not a studying type but im willing to bust my a** off lol to get to know all that, it's a soldiers life at my hands or family if im stuck at a clinic or something lol but hopefully wanting to hit FMF.

Lots of Studying.... And you have 14 Tests...
Keep up with it and you will be ok..
It is all taught at a 8th Grade level.. If you do your homework and study you will be ok.. if you go out to Chicago and party all the time you will fail..

my son is in A school now. He puts in 3 hrs a day. Spends another 1 hr cleaning or working out. On weekends sleeps in studies and watches a movie.doesnt leave base unless going to mall.He was also standing watches.I told him the next 5 yes of your life is how serious you treat class and he is doing it.

I think it has changed in the short three months i have been gone.....i knew when i was there they ahd a NMT schedule which was a train wreck and never seemed to help anyone out. Use your CRC time to crush the books/computer programs they are your best bet but also use your handbook. As for liberty...my HM1 always told us that was out time to unwind but then again we had PT everyday and needed it (oorah delta)! I know your not supposed to but some people somehow get the program on their laptop's try and do that.....that way you can study layin inyour rack or when ever you want....hope all is good back in great lakes.....loving it down here in florida!

Things have changed a bit. Lib-O starts at 1800 , unless you are the night shift, and you will have plenty of time to study, as long as you stay away from Gurnee Mills and 525.
Gurnee Mills I know of, but 525?
Is that a "code" for a club in or around Gurnee Mills or is it the quarters number for where the female students reside? lol
525 is the night club on base.

525 is the "club" on mainside... right by the football field... not that good of a place, but cheap beer...
hustleson, they want to believe that you are all adults there, so finding the balance of liberty and studying will be up to you.... its nice to go out and just have fun, but if you get too hooked on it, you stand the risk of failing your tests. corps school is your first real breath of freedom and fresh air following boot camp, but enjoy it responsibly....
dont do what i did.... (drink n party too much, ended up graduating a month late)
An excellent response Dockorean:
The voice of experience. Yep, where there is cheap beer, they will gather, (including me, many years ago) grins!
stay away from parcheezi's too - bowling alley on corps side :D

And Call Pagasus at home at (847)don-TCALL. ;-)
Seriously your all adults do what responsible adults do and you will be fine. Act like a child and you will be treated as such.
Do you all think we as instructors like yelling and screaming and going to masts etc..?
(Well the MASTS are funny as the excuses are usually outrageous!)..
Nope.. We would rather teach you, PT with you and then go home to our families.. There were many a day where I as a instructor would have to keep the whole school house there late to clean because they could not follow instructions.. Ask Corpsman77 about it.. He went through one of our memorable nights..
;-)
HM1, I was told you were done with nightshifts.. they are still going?

You have 2 hours between getting out of class and Liberty. Study for those two hours and your set. Workout so you build endorphons and feel good about yourself in class!

night shifts are still going. I don't know if they are going to roll thekids back to days when they get to labs, but it seems to be working, since our AI account is down to about 100.

I've seen so many people DE from NHCS all because of 525... Whether it be ARI'S or lack of study, end result is still bad. I know the pitchers of beer there go a long way, but the next day is even longer trying to stay awake in class. Half the class drugged up on caffeine, energy drinks, or stay awake pills. You can see the frustration in the instructors eyes, lol. I had a hard enough time staying awake with the typical 6 hours of sleep. my instructors use to tell the class, the quickest way out of corps school was to graduate. looking back now, i agree. my class started out at 65 and ended in the upper 40s.

Corps School is hard. It's even harder when you're stupid. Stay away from trouble....Parchizis', 525, etc and crack open a book instead.

HM1 Tabura is still a legend. You hear let's PT with HM1 Tabura and half the people sulk haha. I actually enjoy the PT and runs.
As far as all that goes, Time Management is # 1 here.
Too many people outta boot get caught up in the social life and that's the # 1 causes of failure.
My schedule
After Class: NMT Time 15:45 - 17:30 (When I leave for chow)
Chow: 1730 - 1800
CRC-Study for 1800 - 1845
I'm EPO so I stand EPO watches from 18:45 - 21:00. Even though its every other night, I'm there every night to study and lend a hand.
21:00 - 21:45 - Study
21:45 - 22:00 - Either Study Sessions or Prep Trousers,Blouses and Boots for tomorrow
ASAP : Tap Out
Weekends:
Friday: Pool,Gym,CHILLAX
Saturday: Pool, NEX until about 16:00. From 16:00 - 23:00 study
Sunday: Pool, Clean, Iron then study all day
Learning how to help people is fun so I have no problem investing time in it.

Consider that a huge compliment, I don't know him too well except for PT, but he's highly respected and spoken of from the Sailors I've spoken too..
missed on of his PT sessions this week unfortunatley.
Eventually he's probably going to figure out who I am and destroy me haha it's ok though, even though I'm sure I won't be laughing..

<_<
>_>
:)
I loved PT'ing with HM1 Tabura as well (Wasn't in his class, but my class PT'd with him for a few weeks straight ) Ended up twisting my ankle pretty bad on one of his runs ( I was a roadguard ) finished off that PT session ( had about 3 miles left and some other excercises ) and then the next day I pt'd again, and the day after, and the day after... and on that day, my ankle gave out.
HM1 shrugged it off as me behind dehydrated and I got the typical "STAY HYDRATED SHIPMATE YOU FELL OUT BECAUSE YOU'RE DEHYDRATED" garbage. That was in Oct of 07, its April 08 now and my ankle is still jacked. Tendonitis the clinic said, gave me 500 mg naproxyn and told me to ice it. I have been doing that, and it still hurts. Stays to a dull roar until I start to run again, then it really gets painful (even on the naprox. 500 mg just doesn't cut it. )
I still run 3x a week, and i'm usually pretty close to the back. Takes me about 30 - 37 minutes to run 3.6 miles ( pending how much my ankle decides to hurt ), which is way worse then what I used to run it in. Did my PRT here 2 months ago and I took 1200 mg ibuprophen before I went to the PRT site, and it still took me 11:37 to get my 1.5, and my ankle STILL hurt.
So the lesson of the story is... if you're PT'ing with HM1 ( or anyone! ) and you twist an ankle or something minor like that... don't do what I did. Go to sick call/medical and get a brace / chit. If you keep running on it, it could be damaged for a very long time to come. The awesome feeling that comes from PT'ing with some of the best isn't worth not being able to PT how much you want to in the future : (

I know you are young and invulnerable. Almost everyone on this site is younger than I am. But you might watch the mega doses of NSAIDs - they can do your kidneys in.
Ben
You need to have that ankle looked at, for possible corrective surgery. Something is definitely wrong. Nobody should be on that kind of medication for that long. Have you had it looked at by someone other than a Corpsman?
You may not know it, but the advice given above comes from a practicing Medical Professional and knows of what he speaks!
Damaged Kidneys, coupled with a permanently damaged ankle is no joking matter.

Not to mention 1200 mg is way over the recommended dose of 800 mg of Ibuprofen.
Kaymanism
04-18-2008, 17:27
Agreed...just finished that before leave...your body CANNOT process more than 800 mg...you can take more if you want...but guess what? Its in your kidneys and then urine. You stay at 800 and below and you greatly reduce the risk on your kidneys. Going over is doing nothing but asking for trouble. Good luck with that.

ummm not entirely correct. max recommended dose of IBU is 2400 mg in a 24 hr period.

Well as I said if taken as prescribed, you shouldn't have any problems. The Marines eat that stuff like crazy. Its also referred as field candy. I personally like Naproxen better.

I forgot how to do the fancy little quote box, but the daily dose is based on a q 6-8 hr dosing schedule. If you do 12 q 6, you're way over.
psencik1950
04-20-2008, 11:27
I meant 1200 mg q 6 hrs. You can do 500 of naproxen q 12. That's 2.5 of the over the counter strength.

I stand corrected. I thought for sure it was 800 for some reason.
