I searched the form for an answer to my question but couldnt find it. I am very interested in doing Dive Motivator. now the question is do i have to be going in to special ops to do this program? i am really considering recon but i dont want to get into it right away i want to see what its like after FMTB if and when i get there. but like i said i want to do the dive motivator program for the pt. also what are the requirments to get in as for as the PT standards because i know they have screening for it. and i know i said one questiong when do i start asking about this program and look into goin into it....before A during A or after A? :chat:

When you get to Boot tell them you are interested in "RECON" and want to do Dive Motivator for Swimming. They will test you as soon as you get to Boot for it. Once you get to "A" School same thing, tell em you want to be in the Dive Mo program.
You have to be "EXTREMELY" Squared away..
Good Luck!

i was a dive-mo for a short time in corps school to see if i could cut it in a SEAL pt program... if you want to go recon, dive mo is a good idea just to help get into shape, but it is not a pre-requisite. once you reach fmtb, they will offer you the chance to screen for recon, whether you were a motivator in corps school or not.
bear in mind that dive mo is a TOUGH program... while ur shipmates are on liberty, YOU are out doing pt. you are expected to be in top physical shape and have perfect military bearing....
good luck, shippie
I was just wondering if i could do dive mot for the pt regardless if i wanted to go recon or not.....i understand its a tough program and thats what im looking for...liberty this is my job ive have had enough liberty coming into the navy time to make something of myself.
That is what my son did while attending FMTB back in 2005. He and his buddy decided to volunteer for Recon and consequently, PT'd with the Recon folks instead of the FMTB students. It was very tough, as he put it, but doable, provided you were in excellent physical fitness. They made the program all the way through but told them at the end of FMTB they only did it for the PT and were about to get married and Recon was not really what they wanted to do. Needless to say some Recon folks were upset!
I don't recommend doing this. They are recruiting for Recon, not looking for people who want a 7 week membership to a fitness center! Don't waste their time or yours.
In my own opinion, should you volunteer for Recon and then back out at the moment just short of receiving your Recon orders, they may make you accept those Recon orders regardless. Don't play games with these folks, you either want the program or don't.

you can screen for dive mo and not have plans to go into spec ops or recon. it's reccomended, and you may be tempted to because all ur friends are selecting programs or getting orders to BUDS, but you do not need to select them
So dive mo is pretty much a pre req for special ops not just anybody can do it.....
Well, pre-requisite would be a strong word...more of a step on a long staircase to becoming an SO.
Being a dive motivator in boot-camp and Corps School is encouraged if you want to do the hairy end of the navy...but you can try out for it at field med school (FMSB) without it.
But your right, not just anyone can do it. I was friends with a couple of them and partied with all of them during my time at Corps School. They are pretty squared away, but if your scared of constantly being sore from working out and training....CONSTANTLY...then its not going to be a good fit. I remember sitting in my BEQ looking out the window at those guys after we finished our pitiful little 3 mile (cough..jog) run. They were still out there while everyone stared at them in awe. When I was dragging out of bed getting ready for another day at school, they were just getting back from their early morning swim.
Those guys dont play around. But honestly, those are the guys you want with the guns doing the stuff you dont read about in the New York Times. If thats you, then do it big.
Ooo-rah Dive Motivators!

sorry i was a little unclear in my last response... to clarify:
you CAN go dive mo WITHOUT going recon or seal, swcc, etc. i did it a while back...
what i was trying to explain was that if you become a dive mo with no intent of going seal or recon, like i was, you may find yourself tempted to pick up one of those special programs. this isnt a bad thing, just a heads up
Thanks gents i still got a little time before i ship off to RTC just considering things now.....

call it a....tip.
My 2cents on Dive Motivators. Don't even think about running in NIKE SHOX you run in BDU and Combat Steel Toe Boots. Be able to move a five pound wait with a partner from one end of the pool to the other with each persons hand touching once. Not to mention you cant come up for air until your partner relieve you... yes at the bottom. Pushups and Situps wise 90 or more. The heart of a FMF Corpsman or the heart of a Quartermaster still require 150% of what you got in the NAVY HORAHH. In Other words anyone can train with Dive Motivators give it your all and never push just for the cutting line.
Welcome on joining the NAVY... We supply you with 3 1/2 hours of sleep, three but usually time for 2 meals a day, An A School test every 4-5 Days, but who gives a DAMN we all love it here! Man I went above and beyond on this post, but dont stress out in what you do in the NAVY just relax and give it everything you got.
As the most motivational piece of advice that placed a Lacrim on my left orbit was if you give a 100% and score a 70% passing score THAT IS A 100% TO ME HORAHHH! I will never forget that line from my Corps School Instructor wheather I make it or not through this course or not.

Oorah citrus grammar.

Sorry everybody, this is a very dumb question, but what is a dive motivator? I've kind of gotten the context by looking at the last few posts, but just kind of wanted an overview. Sorry.
The only "dumb" question, is the one not asked! That is what we are here for, straight answers to straight questions.
General Info: Navy Fleet Divers perform underwater salvage, repair and maintenance, submarine rescue and support Special Warfare and Explosive Ordnance Disposal while using a variety of diving equipment. They also maintain and repair diving systems.
Candidates may also volunteer for Fleet Diver during basic training at Recruit Training Center (Boot Camp), at "A" school, or at any time during their enlistment prior to their 31st birthday.
In-service recruiters (Dive Motivators) at RTC (Boot Camp) give presentations on the Navy's diver programs, conduct the physical training screening tests, and assist candidates with their applications.
People who enter the Navy in the nuclear, advanced electronics or other five or six-year enlistment programs are not eligible for diver programs.
This course is physically and mentally demanding, but the individual who accepts the challenge is rewarded with dive pay and extraordinary duty assignments.
Navy diver programs are not available to Naval Reserve programs, including TAR, SAM and two year-programs.
What They Do:
Perform underwater maintenance, including propeller changes and hull repair, on ships and submarines;
Use diving equipment including scuba, and state-of-the-art surface-supplied diving equipment and systems;
Maintain and repair diving equipment and systems;
Participate in research and development of new diving techniques/procedures;
Underwater search and salvage operations;
Act as Hyperbaric Chamber Operators, Inside Tenders and Supervisors
Technical Training Information: Enlistees are taught the fundamentals of diving through formal Navy schooling and on the job training. After "A" school candidates go on to Second Class Diver Training.
Second Class Diver Training, Panama City, Fla. -- 20 weeks
First Class Diver Training, Panama City, Fla -- 8 weeks
Saturation Diver Training, Panama City, Fla -- 8 weeks
Master Diver Qualification, Panama City, Fla -- 2 weeks
After completion of Second Class Diver training, graduates are assigned to salvage or repair ships, Mobile Diving and Salvage Units, aviation water survival training, or to EOD/SEAL support. After as little as two years, Second Class Divers are eligible for First Class Diver training which leads to assignment in a variety of jobs requiring advanced knowledge of diving systems. During a 20-year period, divers spend 50 percent of their time assigned to fleet units and 50 percent to shore stations. Advanced training opportunities complement a variety of interesting duty assignments to provide a stimulating and rewarding career.

I'm not a US citizen yet, so technically I can't do any spec ops until I become one, so could I do this dive motivator program at bootcamp anyway, and then screen for recon once I become a citizen?
