Dear fellow HMs- especially those who are now serving at or have connections at Coprs school, Aerospace med tech school and FMBT (EAST).
Seems like no certificates made it to my service record. I have zero copies of any of the three schools (Basic, AVT and 8404 ). "In order to properly evaluate your medical experience, please provide a copy of all completion certificates" so sayth the records folks at Jackson State Community college. This is after they have received and reviewed my SMART pack. This is after, upon review they gave me credit for the following courses:
Intro to Weight Llifting and Wieghtlifting II.
So to alleviate the potential for me to go shoving my retired ID card in their face and explaining the purpose behind the smart pack- maybe I can just get some certificates remade? Perhaps a copy of the curriculm form the dates listed as well?
I went to Hospital Corps School in San Diego from November 1985 to February (I think) 1986. An HM1 Dean was our primary instructor, a personal reference is Captain Nancy Silke who I believe is still on Active Duty (Nurse Coprs, she was a JG back then when I was running through there).
I was at AVT school from July 1987 and finished in Novemebr that year. HMC Orr was our instructor/senior enlisted at the time. Also swinging around there was a guy named Buck Hickman, who I later ran into in Beaufort SC when he was an HMCS and I was an HM2.
Field med school I can actually give the class number 9402 (GYSGT PICKLESIEMER and HM1 W J Romine FMSS 4th PLTN ) . I was Squad leader second sqaud.
If I can get those three Graduation Certificates- I would be able to safely navigate the civilian land mines here with out wanting to slap some one. I can't believe they can't figure out the smart pack but please don't let me be the one to educate them.
My DD214 shows I attended all the schools and the NEC awarded, but I don't think they'll understand that.
This will give me credit for about three of the courses in the EMS field, near as I can tell.
I'll take every single credit they wish to toss my way.
This isn't critical, like I need it to graduate or anything, but if I can get them, they'll go in my safe.

Any one got "useful" info?
Puck:
This website can help you obtain your military records:
http://members.aol.com/forvets/htomr.htm
This link within the same website will help you obtain duplicate training certificates:
http://www.amervets.com/replacement/tr.htm
Issue Requirements
You must submit the following:
An unaltered photocopy of your DD-214 (post WW2), OR unaltered photocopy of WD AGO 53-55 (WW2), OR photocopy of military orders acknowledging completion of military training, OR photocopy of military orders listing Military Occupational Specialty, OR other military issued document clearly displaying your completion of a military training course.
Here is another website that may be of assistance:
http://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/index.html
Hope this helps and best of luck to you Doc.

There should be a page-13 in your record with the "recomended" credits for the course.

No such reccomended credits in the personel record. That never was the way back in the day and as far as I know, not a common practice now. That info is stored in waht they call a SMART data base.
The Navy SMART transcript was sent to the school, but the people there want the completion certificates - because the transcript does not specifically say "Graduated" or "Completed".
Either way, the Navy short changed a lot of us with the bare minimum course syllabuses. Hardly any of my experience can be transferred over. Maybe a few credits for EMS type stuff, but not A&P (navy gives 2 credits- and it's not enough to transfer over).
I can't use my Navy training to acquire a certificate or license in any area of health care at any level in the state of TN. Medical Assistant for instance requires graduation from a school they recognize and Corps school ain't it.
Yet in CT, my friend (same schools, training and experiences) was teaching Medical Asssistance Course at a community college with just a high school diploma and a Navy back ground. Make sense? To no one but TN nursing regulators, and they are an unbending set of old women. I am working with my wife's cousin ( state rep) to get them to accept the Navy on an equal footing as the Army.

What used to be the 91-C course in the Army was essentially LVN school. When I got out in the 70's, the nursing board in Tx said our training was geared towards the independent practice of medicinee which is outside the legal realm of nursing. That's what the board said. Funny that I should remember those words 35 yrs later, huh?
Now I'm a Nurse Practitioner and the TxMedical Association wants to oversee our practice more because we are practicing medicine without a license.
I wish somebody would make up their mind.

Lol Ben, probably time to move on up to MD status.

Me too, I went to that link and did send away for my service record. I am just looking for proof of course completion. After I get his I can transfer all this to cover me as a tactical field medic for our local swat team. Don’t figure, Join the navy, go to war, get out with nothing! LOL Well at least re doing EMT school was a breeze. I tried for years to get the local Reserve center to allow me to come in for free and get these people nationally registered. But you know how the military can be. Hurry up and wait! Well it’s been 10 years. So if anyone has a clue on the curriculum for the 8404 school it would be greatly appreciated. Doc

NAVMED MPT&E Registrar
The Office of the Registrar was formed on 1 October 1987 to provide a central archive of enlisted grades and course completion in Medical and Dental "A" and "C" schools. For classes that convened prior to 1 October 1987 the office maintains a microfilm database. All classes that convened on or after 1 October 1987 are maintained in a computer database. From these sources, the Registrar's Office is able to provide transcripts/academic records. Our courses are currently accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
If you were discharged, transferred to the fleet reserve, or retired prior to 1986 your records should have been transferred to the records center in St. Louis.
The Graduate Medical Education records for doctors who performed their residency or internships were transferred to this office when Naval Hospital Oakland was decommissioned due to realignment.
