If it wasn't broadcasted in loud words from BUMED this last Monday, the 8401 pipeline is online and accepting HM 'A' school kids straight into sea duty (type 2) and shore billets. EMT-B is no longer a requirement to enter the community.
Pipeline is from HM 'A' school or from the fleet:
AVT (8406) school -10 weeks(P-cola, FL) where they'll get their Class II swim qualification & flight physical done and get PQ/AA for flight. If they get NPQ they graduate as 8406's and will stay in that community.
Naval Aircrew Candidate School (8201)-4 weeks (P-cola, FL)
Army's Flight Medic/MEDEVAC/Trauma Combat Care Course school (91f) -5 weeks (Ft Rucker, AL)
On to Shore and once qualified as 8401, will train and then go to Kuwait for the Navy's Air Ambulance mission for 6-7 months sometime in their tour.
or
SERE-2 weeks (east or west depending on orders)
Fleet Replenishment Squadron (FRS/RAG/FRAC) - 16 weeks for type model (east or west, depends on squadron) If you have prior flight time you may go as a category 2 which is more self paced.
Onto Sea and once qualified as 8401, will go to Kuwait for the Navy's Air Ambulance mission for 6 months sometime in their tour depending on Squadron deployment schedule. So yes, a sea duty tour will include multiple small shipboard cruises, work ups and possibly (probably) a trip to the desert on squadron down time).
Questions can be directed to the SAR ETL which is HMC Dave Clipson david.clipson@navy.mil whom is located at Naval Aircrew Candidate School in Pensacola, FL
Or can ask questions here and I can field them to the best of my knowledge.
