Well I was thinking of switching from MA to Corpsman for awhile now...Just like some advice and what not on the whole situation...The whole combat thing kinda worries me a bit if you know what I mean...I heard the Marines take real good care of you when you go out with them...I was told they jumped on a corpsman one time so he wouldnt get shot or something....Id just like to know a lil more about the job and how dangerous and what not it is...Thanks...CORPSMAN UP!

There's two types of Corpsman to the Marines. A Doc and a Duck. You want to be the Doc.
Treat them well and you'll be treated well.

Is it dangerous? Yes it is, Corpsman are dying from wounds received while serving with the Marines. We are at war!
Corpsman do everything and go everywhere Marines go. They accompany their Marines into hostile areas and take fire from the enemy. You'll sleep on the ground, in the rain or mud. Showers and hot meals become a figment of your imagination, while on deployment/patrol. The weather can become cold, or it can be very hot, it can become dreary and miserable pretty darn quick. Your own limits are tested to the extreme, especially with mass casualties.
Advice, make darn sure this is what you want. Going FMF Corpsman sometimes has it's price. Read my second paragraph!
Make sure you are in shape physically and possess an above average academic acumen. You will be studying medicine.
As a former Marine myself, yes, we do take good care of our Corpsman. We will defend our Corpsman with our very lives, if need be.
Remember this, the only thing between death and a wounded Marine, is you the Navy FMF Corpsman!
Are you up for the challenge?

Best of luck to you on your decision.
Glad to welcome you to the ranks. As far as combat? You may never even be assigned to a marine unit. You may get a hospital ship or augment a medical department aboard another ship. Its a crap shoot depending on where they place you. If you've got your head screwed on right, you'll be fine, and you know that.

If assigned to FMF are you able to carry a weapon or weapons or do you depend on others to defend your? I have all the faith in the world in the Marines but I would like to have the ability to stop a threat when it presents itself.

Yep ... you have a side arm.
Some carry both from what I hear.

You take care of them and they take care of you. I had no better duty (69-80) than when I was a Grunt Corpsman.
