View Full Version : EMT before going to "A" school
Does it help to be EMT before getting into "A" school.
I am National Registered EMT-Basic (and almost paramedic - just one test away)
Thanks for any answer.

It seldom hurts, so long as you are able to still learn the "Navy way" of doing things and unlearn any civilain techniques that don't match. Since the USN uses DOT EMT standards you should not have a problem with your National Registry skills.
What PJ said, it won't hurt. You'll definitely breeze through parts of school so your GPA will undoubtly benefit from it.
If you enjoy pre-hospital care and working independently on patients, go search and rescue. We're the only job in the HM community where NREMT-B is a pre-req and our scope of practice is based around paramedics. All the fun of pre-hospital care and you fly in a helicopter! PM me if you have any questions about it.

I was an EMT-CT (Cardiac Tech) [now considered Defib or Intermediate} from VA with Pro Rescuer CPR instructor before I went in and would help tutor for A+P and CPR. It does make a difference depending on how far into your study for the four forty hours in paramedic you are.
