How do you earn one, do you get it after completing FMTB school, or do you have to earn it in the line of duty? I ask because I'm borderline infatuated with it, it looks so badass.

FMTB does not qualify you for the FMF Warfare Device.

To get started in the FMF Device program, you must submit a special request chit (SRC). The SRC needs only be approved by your immediate command, ie., Company Commander, Division Officer, etc. To qualify, you must have passed the most recent Physical Fitness Assessment and your eval/FITREP must be promotable or above. Once this is completed, a page 13 will be signed stating you have started the FMF Device program. This acts as a time stamp, stating that you have 18 months to complete it. After the page 13 is signed, you will be given your PQS booklet.

Make sure you get assigned to a Marine unit, that's #1.

Getting your Pin is definatly a long process and it involves alot on memorization but it is well worth it, Marines look at you totally differently. My advice when you get to your unit jump on it and do it quick show some iniative and knock it out, it will give you a huge leg up on the corpsman who dont have the pin.
