Well back from MEPS with an 84 on the ASVAB. I'm kinda suprised it was that high. It would've happened sooner buut the first recruiter I was working with had "issues". Off to MEPS on Monday and hopefully I can ship out soon.
Congrats Tom - let us know how it goes at MEPS
...the first recruiter I was working with had "issues". ...
lol, that is too funny. Best of luck to you Tom and stay with us.

UPDATE!!!
Since I'm sure that you all were gnawing on fingernails in anticipation. My leave date is 24 September but I have "assurance" from the Liaison that they will try to get me out sooner. Guaranteed in writing A school for HM at Great Lakes as well as enlistment as E-2.
Wish me luck
Tommy

Well now I am in charge of running the DEP meetings until I leave for RTC. I have been "voluntold" by the Chief.
I am to study, know, and follow the lesson plans. The verbage used was "to give my best effort to make the presence of the recruiters as uneccesary as possible".
Aye Aye Chief!

Respectfully this corpsman(to be) is not worried about IV's I have been taught by an old nurse. I can say with all humility that 9 of 10 people I stick won't feel it until I apply the cotton ball.
How's the food in boot/A-school?
Thanks for the input shipmate. I really appreciate you taking the time.

I don't have any specific memories regarding the food at boot camp, other than the fact that boot camp was the first place I tried S.O.S. and I kind of liked it.
While at NHCS at Great Lakes, we used to have to walk up to the hospital and eat there for our meals.

America has become obese Tony... eating what you just listed is the primary reason why.... think of the grease content in every item on your list....
HM's should be setting the example of healthy eating ...
of course the Navy budget does come out of a Federal Pork Barrel.....

OK 'nother newbie question.
I have really been considering volunteering for RCPO in boot. However, I have read and have heard that the "R-POC" is often fired and replaced. Is this true? Why does it usually happen? Any information that can be offered will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom
Tom:
At the Recruit Training Command (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/index.html) website: Under the leadership (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/recruits/lead.html) link you can read:
"The Navy needs good leaders at all levels. Even as a recruit you will
have the opportunity to step up and take a leadership role as a Recruit Petty Officer or other designated recruit job. Leadership is the practical application of the Navy's Core Values. So put what you've learned to work. You will be challenged, but your hard work will not go unnoticed."
Also, under Recruit Petty Officers (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/recruits/rpo.html), you can read:
"Recruit Petty Officers (RPOs) are given their authority from the Commanding Officer through the chain of command. They are appointed by the Recruit Division Commanders (RDCs) and have the authority and responsibility in the division to preserve good order, discipline, and security. RPOs are seen as leaders and wear collar devices signifying their place in the recruit chain of command."
Why are these positions changed out over the course of Recruit Training? Because not everyone is a 'leader'. Your RDC's will evaluate and 'try out' those individuals who demonstrate 'some' leadership qualities. Not all are successful! You don't get to volunteer.
Read more about Recruit Training Command (http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/index.html) here.
I'm sorry I maybe mistaken, but I'm pretty sure MEPS gives away the HM rate like its their job.........

Huh? I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to say. Can you clarify your statement, to help us understand better.

Recruiters and MEPS try to follow the CREO system in providing the number of jobs based on the "Needs of the Navy". The CREO sysytem is rated 1-3 based on percentage of personnel in each rate and what is needed to make it 100% manned or lower the percentage if it is overmanned.

Is that why some people have to wait so long in the DEP program prior to shipping out to RTC for the HM rate?
I'm assuming so. Thanks for the clarification.
