That new bendable fiber (http://www.corpsman.com/shownews/91710) Verizon recently purchased from Corning is about to get some serious use. Verizon says (http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/prnewswire/NYM01424032008-1.htm) they've struck deals to service one of Manhattan's largest apartment complexes (the 110-Building, 11,232-Unit Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village) with FiOS. The limitations of older fiber made installing in apartments tricky -- and that's a problem given a fifth of Verizon's customers live in them. Corning's new Clearcurve fiber can be bent and spooled without signal degradation. Broader NYC deployment remains bogged down in committee (http://www.corpsman.com/shownews/91243) as city council members debate Verizon's plan for selective deployment.
