Sprint executives, speaking at the VON.x conference (http://news.yahoo.com/s/infoworld/20080320/tc_infoworld/96131) last week in San Jose, say they're aiming to consolidate their wireless network, using a single core infrastructure for all of the company's networks. At the moment Sprint has three different networks: their CDMA (Code-Division Multiple Access) EVDO network, the iDEN cellular network from Nextel, and their WiMax network that will see commercial launch this Spring (brand named Xohm). The company still isn't getting into any more detail about Xohm's launch; last year they insisted the network would reach 100 million U.S. residents by the end of this year.
