Hey Stefan,
when you pick orders in NHCS you will find out where you are going after FMTB, if you get orders to a marine unit you will go there directly after FMTB. When you get to your unit you will find out when or even if you are going to deploy just because you are going to a marine unit you are'nt automatically going to deploy. If you do delpoy you could either go with your unit (if so they will tell you what their deployment rotation is) or you could possibly get Individual augmented to another unit that needs corpsman. Hope this helped.
and you're only going to get fmtb if you're going to a Marine Unit, if you go to a hospital or a c school and then a squadron or a ship or something, they won't send you to fmtb.

The last thing I heard is that they are sending most if not all males to FMTB, so if that is true no matter what your duty station is going to be you might still have to go to FMTB. I think it just depends on when you go to corps school, If I am wrong then someone please correct me.
Okay, Lets look at all these posts. First, USE SPELL CHECK SHIPMATES! Next You go off to (FMTB). You will not get FMF qualified at FMTB. You have to be attached to a particular Marine duty type...I.E. 2 or 4 etc. You will be handed a PQS book from one of your LPO's when and IF you check into a Marine Corps unit. As to when you will or will not leave for the, "Sand Box," dont worry about. Keep sharpening your skills while your here.
NEXT, Post #2 I agree with the HN. You will be handed orders that tell you where and when to go and report. Be patient and wait.
Next, Post#3 A myth is something made up like, if your going to the Marines, your going to see combat. Thats not true. Here at FMTB we train all Sailors. Those who are going to Hospitals, clinics and reserve centers.
Post #4: This all depends on the Needs of the Navy. What they want and where they want it...
Well I hope this shed some light on the subject. If there is anything further I can answer for you, please shoot me a reply or question.
Respectfully Sent,

The Navy will get you as far as EMT-B, But you can always use your TA and take the class yourself on your off time. As for programs in the navy to gain paramedic certified, i dont believe there are any. Hope this helped.

yes it did thank you, my next question would have to be, do you have time while you are in the navy to get you E.M.T-paramedic using ta
TA= Tuition Assistance for our newbi's.
That would depend on where you would be stationed. The Navy encourages education, but your participation would have to be on your off time. Don't forget about being placed on a watch bill, duty watch or fire watch, whatever they call it these days. Just the plain duty, and it could fall on a class night.

Not necessarily - just ask the people who finished FMTB got assigned to a Marine unit and deployed within months of getting there (My son is one of them)

Most Commands are pretty flexible with duty and such as long as you tell the watchbill coordinator ahead of time that you are in a class and there are certain days that you cant have duty. Most higher ups understand this because they have been there too. Again though it does depend on your command, You should look into Paramedic courses on the internet through a internet school that way no matter where you go or what you are doing as long as you have the internet you wont miss class, Good Luck!
I may be wrong here, but I don't think TA will pay for Paramedic training. It will be on your own dime. I had a shipmate who was in JAX and he went to a Paramedic school in town. He was about a month away from graduation and the school evaporated over the weekend, along with his $$$$.
My advice to you, investigate any schools you might be interested in, make sure TA will pay your tuition BEFORE you sign anything.
Good Luck!
Mike
Hello and this will be the last post of mine for about a month. I will be in school shipmates. I will attempt to write when I get a computer. Reply to shipping out after graduation: Class just graduated on Friday, Thursday before graduation Marines and Corpsman from unknown units showed up and took their replacement Corpsman....Who did not graduate with their class....Yep they were gone a day before, and out of the State on Friday while their shipmates were graduating...AWSOME!!!!
Welcome to the Fleet!!

As far as I know the only way you are going to get the Navy to SEND you to Paramedic School is if you are SF (Special Forces) ie, SEALs, Recon (SARC), 18 Delta etc. there is no need to train a General Duty Corpsman at the level of paramedic. Now im sure you can use TA, GI Bill or what ever to pay for P school but unless you are on a team you are not likely getting sent to P school.
