I've had my account here for a couple weeks, and I've decided that it's time to finally introduce myself.
I just turned 30, and decided to take my life in a new direction. I've been trying to break into a career in law-enforcement for a while now, and in my area, it's a tough nut to crack. My last holdout is the New York State Police. I've already decided that if I don't score well enough on their exam (results due out next month) it's off to the military I go.
Grandpappy was an EM in the Brooklyn Navy Yard in WWII, later stationed at NAS Ottumwa. My uncle was also in the Navy in Vietnam. They'd both kick my butt if I considered any branch other than the Navy.
I'm state certified as well as NR certified as an EMT-B in New York. NREMTs are few and far between in NY. I have 15 years in EMS and five years in the fire service. I also have an AS in Criminal Justice and I'm working on a BS in Public Safety Administration. Being the adrenaline junkie that I still am after all these years, I'm seriously considering 8401 and 8404.
It's been a long time (10 years) since I've sat down with a recruiter. I'm thinking it's time to do that. I look to the folks here to help me better understand what I'm getting myself into, as well as navigating the pitfalls of the enlistment process in order to obtain the best possible outcome for myself.
"The Navy has both a tradition and a future--and we look with pride and confidence in both directions."
