Just wanted to introduce myself. I am an IT aboard an Amphib (marine carrier).

As of right now we are training our stretcher bearers (of which I am one) to be basically junior corpsman.

So much fun.

We are going through the virtual core school material found on NKO. Great stuff all around.

You will do lots of 2 minute drills, GQ's, and know your 8 Gitmo wounds as well. I was on an Amphib (USS Whidbey Island, LSD-41) for 3 years and we received 2 Humanitarian Service Medals (from Katrina and rescue of Americans from Lebananon), a Battle "E" Award (which relates to medical since you have to get the Green "H" to get a Battle "E").

The Marines onboard will have Corpsman with them and they will only be on the ship for about 2 months or so out of a 6 month deployment.

You will get lots of cuts and bruises from them fighting (actually part of their training), or coming up closed hatches and banging their head on the hatch, and other random minor injuries and situations that occur amongst Marines.

They are an interesting group to get to know, so I would recommend that when you have some down time to go and watch how they train, get to know as many as you can, they usually have some interesting stories to tell , and get your pin (ESWS) while you are on the ship.

I hope that your time aboard goes well for you and wish you the best of luck when you finally become a Corpsman.
