A week or so ago, I made the mistake of sending John to the video store ALONE. Why is this a mistake? Because he usually comes home with a stack of man movies ( read: blood, gore, violence, action).
So he comes back with some that were surprisingly good. "Awake", which we both loved. I usually try to stay away from movies that are medical in nature for the simple fact that I usually get told to shut up, because I have a difficult time NOT pointing out all of the errors I see. For example, when we watched "Million Dollar Baby", I about had a fit! LOL. But this one had very few, and was very interesting. If you are in a bubble and have not heard of this, it is the one based on anesthesia awareness. I loved when he extubated himself. From the camera angle, it looked surprisingly real. I'll just say one thing here: do we ever not secure the tube?????? Sorry, had to get it out of my system.
Now for "I am Legend".....Thought I would hate this one, being a chick and all. But I loved it. It did much more than just hold my attention, so if you haven't seen it, make it a Blockbuster night. Haha.
Now for "The Mist".......NO! Well, you might like it, but I had fallen asleep on the couch by the end of the opening credits, only to wake up a little later to the sight of this enormous creepy snake-looking thing lashing across the screen. Uhhhhh. Maybe it's my phobia of snakes (sure that has a proper name but not sure what), but I closed my eyes to avoid seeing it, and ended up back asleep, thank God, before I knew it. Seriously, "Snakes on a Plane" sent me into a complete tizzy and I had nightmares for days about stuff crawling on me, even though John tells me that some of the snakes in it were so obviously fake that it was laughable. So if you are not as neurotic as me (and I hope for your sake, you are not), you may like "The Mist".
Okay, now for "Atonement", which was to be the chick flick of the bunch: he usually gets at least one that he thinks he will hate in an effort to bring home one I like in order to appease me. But I could not get into this one at all. So if you are trying to impress a wife or girlfriend, choose something else. Or buy her the book. The story sounded good, so hopefully the book is better. They usually are.
