Greetings all...I am new to this site and wanted to introduce myself. I am currently going through the enlistment process with my recruiter and hoping to have all in order soon. I am hoping to be able to obtain the honorable rating of corpsman. I truely am envious of you men and women. I hope to be able to serve my country and fellow men and women as you do. Any suggestions and or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

M.a.D. - you have certainly come to the right place to ask all the questions you could possibly come up with about your career of choice with the US Navy - I am the proud mom of a corpsman who just finished corps school and is now at Camp Lejeune awaiting class up for FMSS in early May - there is a plethora of information on this site - Chief is a font of information and can answer just about ANY question that you can come up with.
Good Luck in your preparations -

We all know the best part of the Corps are the Corpsman ;)

MAD,
Poolzer is quite right, why don't you go and see a "NURSE" recruiter or a Officer recruiter. If our rate is really the way you want to go...
MECP basically gets you in the door for Nursing school, it pays your wages whille you take a leave of absence essentially for up to 36 months to finish school. Poolzer is kinda wrong though, we have had "STUDENTS" in Corps School picked up for this program. Doesn't happen oftern though but it does happen.

I will look up the instruction and post em on the main page area..

Glad to see another future Corpsman!

I enlisted and was sworn into the Navy with the rate of Hospital Corpsman on March 30th, 2007. My current ship out date is June 8th, 2007 and it can't come soon enough.

CMinder,
quick question, which program did you sign up for? What was promised to you etc? Did you red your contract?

Let us know..

Nothing was promised to me at all.

Down at MEPS during picking my job they said that the Hospital Corpsman rate was full but I could take another rate and "when" a slot opened up, I could switch to that rate instead. I said that unless Hospital Corpsman was on my job guarantee and contract, I wouldn't be signing anything. I ended up being down at MEPS for 16 hours but in the end I got everything I wanted.

When you say "program" are you refering to my rate/job in the Navy?

Reading my contract: I'm currently in the DEP as a Hospital Corpsman with a ship out date of June 8th, 2007 with a 60 month/5 year contract with the US Navy.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to ask! I want to make sure that they didn't try to pull a fast one on me or do anything shady.
