Verizon claims that Sprint Nextel owes the company $10 million in outstanding interconnection charges that the company has been trying to get from Sprint for years. The statute of limitations on the issue is coming close so Verizon has filed a lawsuit (http://www.rcrnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080416/FREE/268006084/1002) to attempt to get that money. Sprint Nextel representatives believe that they ll be able to resolve the matter without actually going to court.

In the meantime, Sprint is trying to make sure that AT&T isn t able to default on an interconnection agreement that Sprint believes the two companies have. Sprint says that the interconnection condition was part of the agreement that happened when BellSouth and AT&T were approved for merger. AT&T denies the validity of the condition. Sprint Nextel is working with the FCC to resolve the issue.
