With Sprint facing delays in launching their mobile MiMax Xohm product, it appears that Towerstream may be the first U.S. carrier to bring 802.16e to market. TowerStream CEO Jeff Thompson tells Unstrung (http://www.unstrung.com/document.asp?doc_id=151749) that the carrier will likely go live with their service in an unnamed market next month. The company says they won't be offering wireless phone services over the network, instead focusing on improving their fixed wireless broadband service thanks to the improved line of sight from 802.16e.
