View Full Version : Expelled
My daughter and I were bored late Saturday afternoon and decided to go to dinner and a movie.
We chose ...

Not only was this documentary very easy to follow, but the humor used in adding in slapstick scenes from movies or news reels added to the point that was being made.
I found this very interesting and recommend it to anyone that is truly interested in knowing whats going on out there.

I saw it, and I thought it was a little inaccurate, okay, very inaccurate how they painted supporters of evolution, or, as they called it 'Darwinism' (As if it is some sort of religious belief) as a bunch of stuck-up elitists who want to push out a valid theory from the biologist community. Not so. Once they show real, valid, scientific evidence, they will accept it, but until that day....
Man, evolution gets so blown out of proportion...
Creationalist think its some kind of demonic-scientific-antigod front to tear down the miracle of creation.
All the man said was that the world changes...and living things have to change in order to adapt. THATS IT.
Only a small %age of evolution minded people think that we came from premortial ooze or a monkey. We dont all believe that. But you have to be nuts to think that humans could have survived this world the way we are 4000 years ago. Come on...we have no claws...no sharp fangs...cant dig good...cant run fast....cant climb for poop.
I think we would have been on the bottom of the food chain and eaten to extinction. But heck, thats just me.
A bunny then is not a bunny now...thats all they are saying. But just like religion, both sides have their extremist. But you cant catagorize all of us based on them. Thats like saying all Muslims are like Jihadist or all Christians are like the Klu Klux Clan.
My belief? God said, "let there be light," or some such junk, then BAM...the big bang. :geek:
Creditials: 2 semesters away from a Bio-Chemistry degree, 3 genetics classes, 4 phylosophy classes, 1 anthropology class, 3.2 avg, and a partridge in a pear tree :cat:

EXACTLY!
And the ones that dont "Adapt, Improvise, & Overcome" gets eaten...
The ones that DID live on to multiply, to where eventually, the entire human species are the ones that were able to overcome while the ones who COULDNT became dinner 100s of years ago.
And that, my friend, is all what evolution is. :bunny2:

Not just evolution, but that is the way it is in corporate America. lol
Touche' :not:
Corporate Evolution...I like it.

So ... how did you like his idea that aliens might have seeded the planet? Wild ride that thought is ... but if they did? It's still "inteligent design". :swn:
Christians are like the Klu Klux Clan.
Nothing like painting everyone into a corner. The movie just wanted to expose that scientists aren't even ALLOWED to explore the possibility of "Intelligent Design" no matter where it came from and suddenly you're talking about Christians. BTW ... he's not a Christian but rather Jewish. Opps ... your bad! LOL!!!!!!!

Although I have not seen the film, Ive read a lot about the ID movement.
Intelligent Design invokes the supernatural in order to explain life. It is NOT science.
Science takes no position on religion. ID is trying to sneak religion into the classroom, which violates the constitution, by attacking a Theory that 99% of scientist support. Evolution is the backbone to all science.

Well then, who wrote "a lot" of what you read then? Sounds like you need to see this movie for a more well-rounded POV.
BTW ... the Alien theory is from the top-dog evolutionist athesist himself! It couldn't hurt to see the movie so you see all sides of an issue.

Ya I will see the movie, of course.
A lot= Intelligent Thought : Science Versus the Intelligent Design Movement

Its a collection of the greatest writers/scholars on the subject. ;)
Are you referring to Richard Dawkins?
Sounds like you should read a book, and not watch a movie that is one sided, unless your for teaching religion in a science class room I suppose.
rut row, I can hardly wait for the response to that. :weye:

haha Not trying to stir things up. Just understand both sides of the debate before coming to a conclusion. . ;) and understand the consequences.

ASSumptions always make me laugh. You're ASSuming I haven't read up on this subject in any manner or never attended classes on this subject either, when in fact I gave no indication beyond having seen this move.
I, on the other hand, assumed nothing since you clearly stated ...
Although I have not seen the film
... so I suggested you see it.
Evolution is a theory. All scientist state this. That is FACT by everyone everywhere ... and I'll repeat ... EVOLUTION IS A THEORY.
I like to read up on each front. I'm not afraid at challenging my stand on issues. If you just read about how ID is wrong because evolution makes the most sense ... you're lopsided in possibly learning everything there is.
If you'd see the movie you'll see that it is NOT as much about ID vs Evolution as it is about "allowing" the two to be explored together. The second someone broaches the possibility of ID from somewhere (not necessarily God), people are fired, grants are terminated, people are black listed within the community. You'd think Scientist would welcome exploration of all possibilities. Even if what Intelligently Designed us came from another planet. Where is that fear driven from? Why so scared to slam any doors that can help prove science to it's fullest?
It reminds me of this ...

"blah blah blah I can't hear you ... I was a monkey first and that's all I want to know."
Science is to learn and grow ... not shut doors just because you many not want to know something because you may not like the answers you get.
Yeah ... whatever. LOL!

I agree, Evolution is a Theory. A theory in science is a higher level of understanding than facts, because theories explain facts. Theories explain thousands of facts. ;) You make it sound like theories and facts are opposite. ;)
When a new idea or theory is presented, it must first be a.researched, b. Peer Reviewed, c. scientific consensus, then d. finally class room and text books.
ID wants to skip all the middle components of the process, and be directly injected into the classroom, through political pressure.
ID has no evidence, analysis and avoids any kind of scientific scrutiny.
The goal of the ID movement isnt to encourage intelligent thought, but to foment a revolution to substitute evolution with ID.
It is reliant upon forces that we cannot see, replicate, control, or test.
The problem with "allowing" the two to be explored together, is that it sets up a God friendly science (ID) which explicitly mentions a designer, and the other science (evolution). It forces students to choose God or Science. (Religion or Science and reject God). This is not a choice schools should be forcing students to make.
True, scientists are open to exploring all possibilities, except when those possibilities invoke supernatural causation.
So ... how did you like his idea that aliens might have seeded the planet? Wild ride that thought is ... but if they did? It's still "inteligent design". :swn:

Nothing in there about me actually SAYING they are like the KKK there, chief.
