I have no idea if this is in the right area, but I got my orders to San Diego after my C school, and my platform is NMC SD CRTS 5 AUG, I have no idea what that is, and neither does my Chief. I've googled and yahoo'd as much as I can and all I have found so far is Casualty Receiving and Treatment Ship, so I know what CRTS stands for. But if it's not the Mercy, what is it? I've found a little information on CRTS 8 assisting during Katrina, but nothing on 5.

Doesn't your orders have a phone number or any 'contact' information?

This is the best we can come up with thus far:

Naval Media Center, Casualty Receiving and Treatment Ship Team

Which Ship or if it's just a support function on base is unknown at this time. I would ask the detailer or whomever drafted up the orders.

Thanks to corpsman77 for the information.

Thanks guys, I knew it was some type of a ship, I guess which one will be a surprise to me. I called San Diego, the guy I talked to didn't seem to know much about platforms, but I did get some good information on the hospital.

Krash87:

It does "NOT" Mean ship.. sorry.

This is his MOB billet. Meaning 'mobilization'.

It is a Surgical Team, they go all over .. Ships, as well as in country.

Sounds like you are going to be part of a 'field' surgical hospital team.

Here's my 2 cents worth.

Each billet on shore duty, especially at a large MTF is associated with a mobilization platform.
Your platform is CRTS 5. Should CRTS 5 be deployed you may be assigned to augment the team.
Back in the day it did not matter what platform you were assigned to, if a need came up, and you were available you went.
Since I spent my last 2 1/2 years forward deployed I have no idea how things work now.

Good Luck!

My platform here at NMCSD is also CRTS AUG 5 as well. From what my LPO told me, when our CRTS team deploys we go with an amphib since they're level 2 trauma centers and can double as hospital ships if the need arises.

If memory serves correctly, and it doesn't always ( XX years ago?) we on the "green-side" deployment platforms @ NMCSD, spent alot more time preparing and training than CRTS did, right up until 9/11 after that, everyone was out gettin ready to go on deployment! well.... except the Mercy she was being fixed, AGAIN!
Gators are OK, big sick bay, 4 or more OR's OK chow and you may actually get to go to, the West Pac ports, I had a great time with FST-1, in 2000-2001 except for the sad part of the recovery efforts of the USS Cole, and yet it was good to help our shipmates

Amphibs are a good learning experience since you get several docs with specialty training aboard working all together. I was onboard Uss Comstock for about two years.
