So before I went to MEPS I was told by my recruitor that since I am currently in college and already have college credits that before I ship off it is possible for me to go into basic as an E-2 or E-3 after they get my transcripts. My question is is that I was wondering if even though I signed my paperwork at MEPS as an E-1 if it is possible for that to change with me being in DEP because I was told that I can change the contract between now and the time I ship off? I was told that my status for my paygrade should change once I complete more of my schooling before shipping off, is that true or did I just get screwed over? The reason I ask is because from my understanding, I don't officially sign or swear in officially until right before I leave for basic since the swearing in that I did was only for DEP. I am kind of confused so if you have any advice please let me know.

Read Doc_D's post here: http://www.corpsman.com/forum/showthread.php?p=34969#post34969

"Persons who have satisfactorily completed 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours of college credits may enlist in paygrade of E-2. Applicants who have satisfactorily completed 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credits may be enlisted in paygrade of E-3."

It is your responsibility to provide the Recruiter "Transcripts" that reflect your college credit hours. If you meet the above criteria, I believe it is possible to have an addendum added to your Navy Enlistment Contract reflecting the E2 or E3 criteria. I would provide the Recruiter with a copy of your transcripts immediately and then request Official Transcripts from your college/university be sent directly to your Recruiter. Keep copies of everything you have signed, with regards to your Navy enlistment as proof.

If you lack sufficient college credits for E3, there is a DEP-PQS booklet you can complete and have your Recruiter sign off on. Completion of this booklet will get you E2 placed on your enlistment contract. Read more about it at the following link, scroll down until you see DEP-PQS.

Thanks! That actually helps a lot. I haven't been able to get ahold of my recruiter for the past week and a half now so I plan to just go in tomorrow, I think tomorrow is when DEP people are supose to meet anyways, I'm not certain but I will find out. One other question I was wondering is if there is anything in particular that DEPers are suspose to do besides physical training to prepare before leaving for basic?

When I was in DEP over 20 years ago.......man time flies when you are having fun. All we did was drink beer with the recruiters and play softball against the marine DEPs. I also remember my recruiter asking me if I had anything I wanted to sell.

From what I understand, now folks in DEP have a PQS to complete along with having to maintain body standards.

Good Luck

I provided you with a link (http://www.corpsman.com/category/military-information/recruiting-information/) above to a page on this website that contains Recruiting information, specifically on the, “Personnel Qualification Standards [DEP PQS]. Scroll down a ways to find it.The PQS booklet contains a lot of information, to include Naval History, The General Orders of a Sentry, Rank Insignia knowledge etc... All of this is will be required knowledge at Recruit Training Command, RTC. Study now and you could be promoted to E2 prior to leaving for boot camp, not to mention the head start you will have over others who do not complete the PQS.
