Originally slated for last year, AT&T has been working hard on testing a compression scheme that allows them to offer two HD streams, two SD streams, and 10Mbps worth of data via the average 25Mbps most U-Verse customers receive. AT&T confirms to me that they are indeed now offering two HD and two SD streams in some markets, but won't specify any solid launch dates. The update is coming to all U-Verse customers shortly, AT&T confirmed.
"We've begun rolling out the ability to watch or record two HD programs simultaneously, and the rollout will continue market-by-market," AT&T rep Brad Mays says. "We're not disclosing our schedule since exact dates can sometimes change, but we will be letting customers know once it's available to them." Users in portions of the St. Louis, Detroit and Atlanta area launch markets have reported seeing the upgrade. Next up? Line bonding and faster speeds.
