Good morning folks, ive got a 12 month IA to Afghanistan that im leaving for on the 26th to begin the 1st stages of training. I am a 8404 and i recently completed a TCCC course. In my orders it states i'll be reporting to Ft Sam Houtson for 2 weeks of Combat Medic training. I was hoping someone here might know what that training consists of? not sure if its a refresher course or maybe something different i might not of seen yet.
Thank you for your time and any responses!

Lol yeah thats why i'm kinda curious myself 0311! when get there i'll definately let you all know!
Be careful there. The most dangerous person in health care is the one who will not admit that there is something they do not know.

Yeah i feel that i could never know enough, so if its only a refresher course thats all good! Yet im really hoping it might be something a little bit more. Thing is everyone i talk to has heard different versions of what were going to be doing everything from a refresher course to a mix of OEMS/refresher type training. The crew at the NMPS im at right now are real curious to know also, they say this whole thing in Ft Sam is pretty new. So when i report there next week i'll give a shout to let you all know whats really going on there. Take care all!!!

DocMike,
It could just be OEMS...though what ever type of training it is, I'm sure it'll either teach you something or you'll be able to teach someone something. Never pass the opportunity to train. It's better to mess-up in training, than it is on the battle field!

have fun a Ft Sam, when I was in the Army, it was my favorite base. When I was in it was 2-1 female to male ratio :D
Went through the course he is talking about, Military Transition Team Medic course. Its a great course, like a sickcall screeners but more in depth, with a live tissue lab at the end...loved the live tissue lab great experience.
any of ya'll know any army units looking to pick up a corpsman? 8404, former sr. line HM for WFTBN at pendleton/Field Medical Sup. Haven't deployed b4 and am ALL about rocking and rolling. currently drilling with OHSU Det-J at NOSC houston, and am on the "VOL" list. if ya'll hear anything, you can reach me at DOC-Country@hotmail.com. I rarely check my PM on here...Tango!
I think you are looking in the wrong places man, I just got back from an ECRC deployment and can open up my CMSID and 2/3 of my orders available are ECRC Afghanistan. It's there just ask your detailer. We are in high demand, even a guy here with orders to the Horn of Africa got those replaced and is now voluntold to AFG. Now why you would rather deploy with an Army unit instead of a Marine one is beyond me. I know most of my shipmates thought I went out to do a PRT or humanitarian mission because it was with the Army, but noooo buddy, I was driving/calling for fire/changing humvee tires/and taking out bad guys. you will have to be squared away in knowing how to do contact reports/work a tacsat/ call for fire on an area/using C4 and blasting caps to destroy IED's/ replace powersteering hoses in your vehicle, because when youre ECRC you will be living with afghan soldiers and you will have to pretty much do everything with your own team and without support. Don't let me sound negative because I do still talk to the Army guys on my team and they were squared away and I did enjoy the experience.

This is true! got to keep it off base though, when I went through in 07 there was strict rules of army and navy students not being able socialize.
