The average person is increasingly able to access mobile VoIP through his or her cell phone. There are definite benefits (http://www.voip-news.com/feature/mobile-voip-increasingly-promising-052108/) to this trend including a series of advanced features that may interest customers. These features include the ability to transmit data in multiple ways (voice, text message, IM, etc.) and the ability to see when someone is available to speak with you through the use of social networking tools on your mobile VoIP systems. However, there are barriers which need to be overcome before mobile VoIP becomes a widespread service. Cost is one barrier; although some VoIP services provide free peer-to-peer calling, costs remain high for many international calls. There are also issues in determining whether to use cellular data networks or cellular voice networks to realize mobile VoIP. As these issues are worked out and wireless technology advances, mobile VoIP use is expected to grow.
