this is my first trip to the greenside of the house and i am only a MAP but i really look forward to the experience. so far all i know is that i got assigned to a line company and i will meet my marines on monday. unfortunately even the corpsman that are organic to my company are fairly new arrivals and all of them are "boots" like me but i am sure between what i can learn here and from the upcoming training i will learn quite a bit of helpful info.

thanks for the encouragement doc. i'm trying to work on that pin as much as possible right now. especially because i know as little time as it may seem i have now, once i get in country my time for studies is going to drop even more being a line corpsman and all. i'm also getting quite a bit of training in and i hope to go to the Jan OEMS class aswell. i hear it's a great course.

Don't say only a MAP! MAP personnel have done many great things out there with greenside. I've seen many come and many more want to come back.
Stay focus, take care of your Marines and they'll take care of you. Stay Motivated!

Shipmate if you get the OEMS course, make sure you become the instructor to those who can't go, Pass info on to those who will be serving with you to include Marines as well who will be servng with you..
One of the Best IV Sticks I ever knew was a LCPL assinged as a driver to our BAS, this guy could hit a Vein in the back of a bouncing Humvee, in the dark etc..
Why?? because we trained him, sometimes when the shit hits the fan you might need more then 2 hands..

Thanks to all for the advice. I recieved word that i will get to go to the OEMS training and so will most of my fellow corpsman that are attached to the unit. i believe about half have already recieved the training so it opened up a seat for myself to attend this go around. i just got home from Stu Segal (sp) Training tonight and it was awesome. It costs the military a quarter of a million dollars to put this training on for a total of nine or so days. It had iraqi actors in a mock city set up and we got an opportunity to train in an envioronment more similar to that which we will be operating in, or so i am told. I got to patrol through the city with my marines and i got to show some of them how to help me in the high back and in casualty collection points when it came time to treat the wounded. good training, everyone taught, everyone learned.

the stu segal stuff is pretty good. they still have that old recon master chief HM there? when i was there he would come outta the wood work at the most intense part of the scenerio, find me, and grill me about what i was doing as im trying to move someone, return fire, treat, or just patrol! he is awesome at what he does. also try to get into OEMS too. ive been in 1/5 for a year and im still waiting my turn....heard nothing but good things from it. hopefully whenever we get back to the states i get to go.

i saw the signs out there so i'll be the first on here to say welcome home 1/5. that salty doc is still out there. he really is great at what he does and so is Dr. H at the OEMS class, i am in it right now. it's a huge wealth of knowledge that anyone dealing with operational medicine (even the average grunt)should get involved in. because of this class i can better teach my guys how to treat eachother when we go to the sand.
