Hi my name is Geoff. I currently work for a police department in Arizona. I am looking into joining the Navy Reserve preferably as a HM. I should mention I am 32 and I have no prior service. I took the ASVAB the other day and scored an 85 for the overall score. Magically after taking the test, there were no more HM jobs open. They are trying to push me into MA and I just refuse. I would get burned out soooo fast if I did that. I used to be an EMT (7 years) prior to starting my career in LE. Anyway, the rating that really interests me is the independent duty job. I have gained some valuable information here, but any other advice is welcome!

Welcome Aboard;

Do not sign an enlistment contract in the hopes of being able to switch over to something else.

Secondly, HM jobs are never closed. However, you can enlist for HM in the Delayed Entry Program, DEP for up to one year. You do this until a slot becomes available. 32 is not to old for enlistment with the Navy. Although, your bones and body won't be as agile as an 18 year olds. lol

Independent Duty Corpsman, IDC is an admirable job. You have to be an E5 (I believe, not sure) to request this school.

We also hold a chat session every Tuesday evening at 2100 EST (9:00pm). Click the E-Club Chat (http://www.corpsman.com/forum/chat/flashchat.php) icon at the top of the page and come meet other shipmates.

Thank you for your service with the Arizona Police Department. I absolutely love the Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. oorah!

PS: Your past EMT training will be helpful in the area of medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology. However, Navy medicine is done a little bit different than civilian medicine.
