Google has long been an active voice in the net neutrality conversation and now plans to put its money where its mouth is by developing software (http://mashable.com/2008/06/14/google-isp-monitors/) which will allow users to monitor ISP throttling on their computers. "The idea behind Google s effort now to put local monitoring systems on users PCs to gauge for network throttling is quite simple, as told by director Whitt, If the broadband providers aren t going to tell you exactly what s happening on their networks, we want to give users the power to find out for themselves. "
People opposed to this idea raise the question of whether or not there are privacy risks associated with putting this type of software on your computer, perhaps envisioning a world in which Google can see everything that you do online.
