It appears the Bush administration is still doing its best to deliver legal immunity to Verizon, AT&T and Sprint for their role in handing over consumer voice and Internet data to the NSA without a court order. The latest effort, according to Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN1327160320080613?feedType=RSS&feedName=politicsNews), would permit court dismissal of some 40 lawsuits -- if carriers can show they were given written assurances that their participation in the U.S. government's warrantless domestic spying program was legal and authorized by President George W. Bush. Voting on this latest "compromise" could come within weeks.
