While second generation iPhone users will be able to leave EDGE behind, they still won't be able to use the iPhone as a tethered HSDPA modem, according to iPhone Atlas (http://www.iphoneatlas.com/2008/06/13/att-no-iphone-3g-tethering-for-you/). While AT&T offers such functionality for other smart phones in their in their repertoire (aka their $65 phone as modem (PAM) plans (http://www.wireless.att.com/businesscenter/solutions/wireless-laptop/phones-as-modems.jsp)), the iPhone won't be coming along for the ride. The only data plans for the iPhone 3G remain the $30/month plan or the $45 business plan.
